Earned a Badge? You Might Be Closer to Graduation Than You Think
Have you earned digital credentials or professional certifications? Digital credentials, also referred to as micro-credentials offer a block-chain technology ensuring that your earning is verified and backed by metadata. SIUE currently offers Alternative Digital Credentials (ADCs) that may provide a pathway to college credit: Public Speaking and Interpersonal Communication. Public Speaking ADC: This credential is awarded to earners who successfully complete modules in audience analysis, ethics in public speaking, informative and persuasive speeches, speech delivery, listening, special occasion speeches, introductions and conclusions, and supporting ideas in public speaking. Once enrolled at SIUE, this credential may provide a pathway to 3 credit hours for ACS 101: Public Speaking for earners who:
- Demonstrate the equivalent of three years of full-time work or volunteer experience where public speaking was a key component of the role at the time of credential completion.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply public speaking principles to lived experiences.
The Public Speaking ADC serves as a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) for three credit hours of ACS 101.
Interpersonal Communication ADC: This credential is valuable for professionals across various careers, as it provides training in message formation and delivery, listening, perception, awareness of verbal and nonverbal communication, and conflict management. Competency is assessed through quizzes, and earners of this credential have demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with the principles and practices of interpersonal communication. Once enrolled at SIUE, this credential may provide a pathway to 3 credit hours for ACS 103: Interpersonal Communication for earners who:
- Demonstrate the equivalent of three years of full-time work or volunteer experience where interpersonal communication was a key component of the role at the time of credential completion.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply interpersonal communication concepts to lived experiences.
The Interpersonal Communication ADC serves as a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) for three credit hours of ACS 103.
In addition to these ADCs, SIUE may recognize industry certifications and other forms of prior learning through the Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) process.
