Making the Most of Subject Searching

The advantage of a Browse Subject search is that it allows for a more focused search.

The disadvantage is that it is sometimes hard to know the correct LCSH term that will used be for a topic.

A good strategy is:
  1. First, use your own terms in a Any Word Anywhere keyword search.
  2. Look at the records for books that are on your topic (in an Any Word Anywhere search the most relevant results will be listed first).
  3. Write down any relevant subject terms that are listed and use them later in Browse Subject searches or
  4. Click on the hyperlinked subject term.
