About ‘Guide to Web Presence for Small Business’
- This website is a project developed by Dr. Hester and Spring 2017 CMIS 300 students at SIUE.
- The website is designed to provide basic information for small businesses to get started with establishing web presence.
- The project began with class discussion to define the scope of the project and corresponding pages to focus on web presence for small, local businesses.
- We defined FIVE avenues of web presence in addition to development of the business website.
- We defined a list of NINE focus industries most relevant to small business.
The target audience
- Smaller businesses, including local, hometown, non-chain, unique businesses
- Clients of the Illinois Metro-East Small Business Development Center at SIUE
- The SIUE and Edwardsville/Metro-East community
The goals of the website
- Provide small businesses with a guide to domain name services and hosting services
- Provide small businesses with simple definitions and descriptions of web presence
- Provide small businesses with simple step-by-step directions to establish and maintain web presence
About Dr. Hester
Andrea J. Hester, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Management and Information Systems at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Information Systems from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in Computer Management and Information Systems from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She teaches in the areas of Java programming and web development. Her research interests focus on collaborative knowledge management, the use of Wiki technology in organizations as well as the classroom, Web 2.0 technology, Socio-Technical Systems, and adoption of information systems. She has published in Information Technology and Management, The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems, The Learning Organization, Performance Improvement Quarterly, and International Journal of Social and Organizational Dynamics in IT, as well as proceedings of international and national conferences.
