Current Research

As an applied researcher, my scholarship is

situated within the guiding principle that

clinical practice in speech-language pathology

must be grounded in research and research

must be well informed by clinical practice. My

research agenda consists of a) developing

evidence-based treatments to support

communication abilities in children with complex and severe communication impairments and b) developing evidence-based instructional practices that support students’ abilities to become master, not simply mediocre, SLPs. Within these two themes, a critical component of my research agenda is my commitment to the dissemination of my research findings and scholarly activities to support evidence-based practices in our field.

Mentoring students in research is also an important component of my scholarship activities at SIUE. I direct a variety of students in the SIUE Communication Sciences and Disorders Lab including students who assist me in my research as well as mentor students who are performing their own research projects.
