Proctoring
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville offers selected proctoring options for assessments (tests and quizzes).
For assessments delivered via the Blackboard learning management system, there are several options for securely offering assessments including test configuration and display features in Blackboard and the utilization of LockDown Browser. Information Technology Services (ITS) provides assistance with configuring tests in Blackboard and utilizing LockDown Browser to faculty interested in learning more about these options.
In certain instances, synchronous (live) proctoring is required for high-stakes assessments including midterm exams, final exams, and end-of-program certifications.
In-person proctoring for students in traditional and hybrid courses: For synchronous proctoring in traditional and hybrid courses, on-campus attendance for a proctored assessment should be scheduled as usual. If students elect to take an assessment at an off-campus site, students must pay the applicable fees required by an off-campus testing site.
In-person proctoring for students in online courses: For in-person proctoring in online courses, local students should be proctored on-campus by either the faculty member or an alternative person within their department. If a student is not able to make accommodations with the faculty or department, the student can be proctored at an off-campus testing site. Faculty or students interested in this off-campus solution should contact the Office of Online Services and Educational Outreach (outreach@siue.edu) for additional information.*
Online proctoring: For synchronous proctoring in online courses*, SIUE contracts with ProctorU to provide live proctors to monitor student assessments. Requests for the utilization of ProctorU must be approved by the University administration before payment for the service will be authorized. Faculty interested in this option can complete the ProctorU request form.
*Effective Summer 2017, students enrolled in online courses cannot be required to attend in-person sessions on campus. Faculty can offer in-person proctoring on campus for students in online courses but alternate arrangements must be allowed for students who choose not to attend the in-person, on-campus sessions.
