Academic Advising

Choosing a program and degree to pursue is an important decision that will play a large role in shaping your future. Meeting with and discussing your interests with a n academic advisor can help you to make the most of your time here at SIUE. Your advisor will aid you in creating a program of study that fits your educational wants and needs, monitor your progress, and provide you with support throughout your academic career. You should meet with an advisor each semester to assess what classes you should register for and address any questions you may have about your academic pursuits .

Where Do I Go For Advising?

If you are an incoming freshman or undergraduate student and have not officially declared a major, you will receive advisement in the Office of Academic Advising, located in the Student Success Center, Suite 1220. The office is openly regularly from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., Mon., and 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Tues.-Fri.

If you have officially declared your major or have been admitted to your respective academic program, you will receive advisement within your major department, College, or School. Learn more about advising for declared students.

If you are located in Prairie, Bluff, or Woodland Residence Halls, you may visit with your assigned advisor in these respective locations. Undeclared residents of Prairie and Bluff Halls may find their exploratory advisor’s office in the building’s computer lab, and residents of Woodland Hall may locate their advisor near the hall’s front desk.
