How to Pronounce Single Tones

What you will learn:

On this page, you will learn how to pronounce the four single tones. After reading the details of the graphic (on the right), read the explanation and  listen to the audio example for each tone. Notice as your listen to these examples, you will successively hear the pronunciations of Chinese final "e" with first tone, "e" with second tone, "e" with third tone and "e" with fourth tone.

  First Tone:
 
Listen to the example
  When you pronounce first tone, you should pronouce
  high and flat.

 
  Second Tone: Listen to the example
  When you pronounce second tone, you should pronounce
  from low to high.

 

  Third Tone: Listen to the example
  When you pronounce third tone, you should pronounce
  from high to low then go high again.

 
  Four Tone: Listen to the example
  When you pronounce fourth tone,  you should pronounce
