SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

Engineering scholarships that are normally available on a regular basis are listed below. Applications may be obtained from the Associate Dean's Office, 200 University Park Drive, room 2210. Additional scholarship information is distributed to faculty advisers and posted when received by the Dean's Office. Please check with your adviser for additional information during the academic year.

The awards are listed in three categories:

1) those pertaining to the all students in the School of Engineering
2) those pertaining to students who are working toward a degree in engineering (i.e. CE, EE/ECE, IE, and ME)
3) those scholarships that pertain only to a particular department in the School of Engineering.

     I. Awards Available to ALL Students in the School of Engineering

Society of American Military Engineering (SAME) Scholarship ($500-$1,000)

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Scott Field Post, offers a $500-$1,000 scholarship. It will be awarded to a student who will be a junior or senior in the fall semester. The application for this scholarship is open to SIUE students of all School of Engineering disciplines. To qualify for the scholarship, the student must be enrolled full time as a declared major in a School of Engineering curriculum, currently be a sophomore or junior, and be a citizen of the United States or possess a permanent visa. The award is based on information obtained from the student's application form, transcript, and two letters of recommendation.

Fru-Con Engineering Scholarship ($1,000)

The recipient of this scholarship must be a junior or senior with a major in the School of Engineering and be a citizen of the United States or have applied for citizenship. The award will be based on demonstrated academic achievement in the field.

Hurst-Roche Engineering Scholarship ($1,000)

Applicants for this scholarship must be a junior or senior with a major in the School of Engineering. The award will be based on financial need and demonstrated academic achievement in the field. Applicants will be screened by the Office of Student Financial Aid, and qualified candidates' names will be submitted to the school for review and selection.

M. B. Corlew Memorial Award in Engineering (approx. $150)

The purpose of the M.B. Corlew Memorial Award in Engineering is to provide award support for students in the SIUE School of Engineering in memory of M.B. Corlew.

The annual earnings of the M.B. Corlew Memorial Endowment Fund shall be used to provide award support to the student best meeting the following criteria:

The student shall have a declared major in any field of the School of Engineering; the student should have completed the freshman year and be entering the sophomore year of studies and have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 grade scale.

The student shall be chosen by a committee of faculty and staff of the School of Engineering as appointed by the dean of the school.

II. Awards For ALL Students Seeking Engineering Degrees in Civil,
Electrical/Computer, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering

ISPE/M.E. Amstutz Memorial Award ($1,000 - $1,500)

The Illinois Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE/M.E.) Amstutz Memorial Award is presented for outstanding scholastic achievement and participation in student activities for the purpose of educational advancement and preparation for the practice of professional engineering. To be eligible for this award, you must be attending a college or university in the state of Illinois, be at least of junior standing in the engineering curriculum, have a B average or better in those courses which are accredited toward the engineering degree, and show evidence of need.

Harry A. Kluge Memorial Honors Award in Engineering

The Madison County Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers established the Harry A. Kluge Honors Award to recognize an outstanding student in engineering. To be eligible for this award you must be a junior or senior in civil, electrical, industrial or mechanical engineering. Selection criteria will include overall grade point average and participation in campus activities. The award recipient will be selected by a committee appointed by the dean of the School of Engineering.

Young Engineers of St. Louis Engineering Education Scholarships

The Young Engineers of St. Louis, a joint committee comprised of members of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Missouri Society of Professional Engineers(MSPE), and the Engineers' Club, sponsors this scholarship. The application for this scholarship is open to students of all engineering disciplines. To qualify for the scholarship the student must be registered in an approved engineering curriculum, must currently be a freshman or sophomore, must be a citizen of the United States or possess a permanent visa, and should intend to live and work in the St. Louis area after graduation.

Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois Scholarships (seven @ $1,000)

To qualify for a Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois Scholarship for the academic year, a student must be a United States citizen pursuing a bachelor's degree in an ABET-approved engineering program or in an accredited land surveying program. Students must be entering their junior, senior, or fifth year in the fall semester to qualify. Students graduating in December are not eligible.


 III. Awards Available for Students in SPECIFIC Engineering Programs

Oates Associates Civil Engineering Scholarship ($1,000)

(Civil Engineering)

The recipient of this scholarship must be a junior or senior civil engineering major and be a citizen of the United States or have applied for citizenship. The award will be based on demonstrated academic achievement in the field.

ITE - Illinois Section Scholarship Award ($1,000)

(Civil Engineering/Transportation Students)

The ITE - Illinois Section Scholarship Award is presented annually to encourage students to consider Transportation Engineering or Transportation Planning in their studies and career aspirations and to provide partial financial support to students who have demonstrated an interest and are likely to work in the transportation field. The scholarship consists of an award of $1,000 which is to be used to offset education costs. To be eligible for the scholarship the student must be either a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior in an Illinois college or university with course work and career-goal emphasis on Transportation Engineering or Transportation Planning.

Illinois Asphalt Paving Association (IAPA) Scholarship ($1,800)

(Construction and Civil Engineering)

The purpose of the IAPA Scholarship is to assist students in gaining a better understanding of the asphalt paving industry area through a scholarship provided by the IAPA. The scholarship will be awarded to one junior student in civil engineering and one junior student in construction for the senior year at SIUE. The student must either be a U.S. citizen or have applied for citizenship. Selection of the recipients will be based upon interest of the student in the asphalt paving area and his/her performance at the university. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.80/4.00 is required. Preliminary screening of applicants will be made by the engineering staff and recommendations will be made to IAPA. Final selection of the recipients will be made by representatives of IAPA in consultation with the SIUE engineering staff. IAPA Scholarship Application Form

Harvey H. Hagge Concrete Scholarship ($1,000)

(Construction)

The Illinois Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) will award an annual merit scholarship to a student in the Department of Construction at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. This scholarship is named in honor of Mr. Harvey H. Hagge, the late Executive Director of the Illinois Ready Mixed Concrete Association, and is for the amount of $1,000 to be present to a student who will pursue a career in construction and who has demonstrated an interest in concrete.

This scholarship is based on merit and not financial need. Selection of candidates will be made by the Illinois Ready Mixed Concrete Association from the applications submitted. The scholarship recipient should be a junior, senior, or a graduate student of construction. The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student of construction at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville during the Fall and Spring Semesters of the school year for which the scholarship is awarded.

Criterion for selection will include--but not be limited to--the following: Cumulative grade point average, classes and/or research projects in concrete materials or design, Co-op and/or employment experience related to concrete construction and/or design, interest in a career in concrete materials, construction, or design, and career objectives.

Final selection of the recipient will be made by association representatives who will interview the selected candidates at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at a date and time to be announced later in the semester.

American Society of Professional Estimators of St. Louis #19 ($250)

(Construction and all engineering programs that are related to construction)

Two scholarships in the amount of $250 each shall be awarded by ASPE. Applicants shall be a student enrolled in a full-time capacity in a junior college or university. The applicant must be pursuing courses of study leading to a degree in some phase of construction, i.e., architecture, engineering, general contracting, construction management, or a construction-related program. Applicants shall furnish with their scholarship application:

1. college transcript(s),
2. SAT, ACT score, or other pertinent scores,
3. letters of recommendation,
4. copies of college entrance letters, and
5. a history of:
a.employment
b.high school clubs
c.community activities
d.athletics
e.other 

Russell C. Soloman Award for Excellence in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering ($500)

The purpose of The Russell C. Soloman Award for Excellence is to provide award support for students in the SIUE School of Engineering in memory of Russell C. Solomon.

The student shall be a declared major in either Industrial or Mechanical Engineering at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville; of sophomore or junior status; and enrolled full time with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The student shall be chosen by a committee of faculty and staff of the School of Engineering as appointed by the dean of the school.

Ross & Baruzzini Scholarship for Electrical & Mechanical Engineering ($1,000)

The student(s) shall be a junior or a senior with a major of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. The student(s) shall demonstrate academic achievement in the field.

American Public Works Association Scholarship ($1,000)

(Civil Engineering Students)

The purpose of the American Public Work Association (APWA) Scholarship is to encourage students interested in a career in the field of public work.

To qualify for the scholarship, an applicant must be a declared major in Civil Engineering, admitted to upper-division civil engineering courses, and needing more than 35 credits to graduate, a U.S. citizen or person who has applied for U.S. citizenship, and has a cumulative overall GPA of at least 2.75. Selection criteria includes interest and potential for success in the field of public works and academic record. Three applications are selected by the civil engineering faculty and forwarded to APWA for final selection.
