Standards for Evaluation

Software selection is dependant upon what you want technology to help you do. The following factors should be considered when selecting software.

Quality. Use software reviews and recommendations, pilot test the software before buying it, review support documentation on program operation.

Number (and type) of copies. Use companies' flexible pricing structures: "lab packs" or price discounts for buying multiple copies, site licenses, or networked versions.

Source of best prices. Use dealers who have lower prices than the publishers (Educational Resources, the Educational Software Institute).

Match with curriculum and students. Choose wisely between two packages that seem to do the same thing (match software carefully to the student levels and curriculum specific needs).
