2. Course Description:
This course provides students an in-depth examination of accounting research methods and issues. It culminates in an independent research project resulting in a written report and an oral presentation to the faculty and graduate students. You may complete a research proposal that was prepared for another class or, with permission of the instructor, you may propose a different research topic.
3. Procedures:
The course will be conducted as a series of presentations and student discussions on accounting research topics. We will touch on a wide variety of research areas, partly driven by research topics pursued by students in the class. Students must attend all sessions in all areas but will spend more time (independent reading and work on the research paper) in one area. In addition, students will engage in one-on-one interaction with a faculty member who will direct their research efforts.
4. Materials:
Materials for this class will include journal articles, manuscripts, and writing guides that are available in the Hagemann Tax Learning Center or on the instructor’s home page. Some materials will be distributed in class.
5. Grading:
The final exam in this course will be the oral presentation of your research to the faculty and other graduate students. Your grade in the class will be based on the following breakdown:
| Assignment | Points |
| Introduction section | 10 |
| Literature review / background section | 10 |
| Method section | 10 |
| Results / Discussion sections | 10 |
| Full draft | 10 |
