Purpose: This course is to introduce the concepts of concrete design and how it impacts on construction. The students also are exposed to formwork design.


Objective: Concrete is a major building material in construction. This course exposes the student to the design basics of concrete and shows them how design impacts on the constructibility of a structure. Formwork is normally the responsibility of the contractor, and is a major concern of concrete construction. This course thus places special emphasis on this topic.


Note: You must have completed CE 242 for this class.

Schedule: Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 1 1/2 hours in a lecture/workshop format (15 weeks)


Grades: 50%: Tests and Final Exam
40%: Homework
10%: Design Problem on Formwork
