CMC has brought about questions and issues regarding identity. In game playing on the internet, masks allow people to act in way that they wouldn't in real life. (Barnes p38) Some people say that role playing in MUDS causes instability, while others say that role play can help build identity especially in teens. (Barnes p118-119) It has been discovered that some aspects of true identity will show through, even behind a mask. Women are known to be more supportive, express thanks, an discourage aggressive messages, while men tend to ask more questions and supply information.
