Application
A class of undergraduates who must write a paper about a recent event will use all 5 of the following:
1) An Internet basic search engine chosen from Findspot.com
2) An Internet meta search engine chosen from Findspot.com
3) An Internet subject directory chosen from
Findspot.com
NOTE: The advantage of Findspot is help with setting up the search after the choice is made for a search engine or directory.
4) Social Sciences Full Text, Wilson (Lovejoy
Library, choose Journal and Newspaper Databases, choose Social
Sciences)
5) Academic Search Elite (Lovejoy
Library, Journal and Newspaper Databases, choose
General)
Searchers must find 3 full text journal articles, news articles, or other scholarly writings from each source about their subject. Evaluation of a web site should be done by any web user.
Students should choose at least 3 words to search in each place and must consistently use the same words in each search place.
The following questions are to be answered by the student:
How long did it take to find a web site with the information that you needed in each case? Which option or combination of options would be the best choice for your next research?
