Work Experience
Misty's
My first job ever was a a little family owned ice cream shop name Misty's. For a 16 year old this job was perfect. After school I would drive right across the street to this little
place and work serving people ice cream and other snacks. While this job was rediculously easy and very slow business, it was my first experience with a job and having a work place depend on me. Needless to say I did apply for my next job because I needed to make more money. However, Misty's will always hold a little tender place in my heart :)
Wings to Go
This second job was my first waitressing job. I had never had tyo actually wait on people, take thier orders, bring drinks, and clean like I had to at this job. Wings to Go
was a great job to get first hand experience in dealing with the public directly and learning how to balance money, personal skills, and keeping everyone happy. I learned to be a very hard worker and saw how that paid off. Having instant tip money in my pocket at the end of the night was extremely satisfiying at 17 year olds. Plus with more money being added to my income, I was learning independence and beginning to pay for more things on my own at home.
Callahan's and Cali's
My first job at Carbondale was a bartending position at a club and bar. The club section was named "Cali's" and the pub part was named "Callahan's." This was a dream job for any college kid, however the hours were late and I learned how to work with very little
sleep. I worked in both sections of this bar and club as a bartender. I learned how to count money back FAST, serve people and know when to STOP serving people, tolerance of drunk and rude people, and how to spend my hard earned money well. This job was so fun because my shift did not often start till 10 at night. I could go out and socialize with friends before my shift, then go into work where I got to see the rest of my
friends I made with fellow employees and also those that came up to the bar to visit me. Many of my fraternity bothers were bouncers at the bar and club so I had fun working with them as well as feeling safe when doing my job. The people that all worked and these two places were somewhat of a family. We hung out together, ate together, socialized together, cleaned together, and always helped each other out. This job taught me teamwork and to reach out and help others, even when you might not always get a favor returned. In the end everyone benifits when things run smoothly in a work place.
Hooters of Fairview Heights
I have worked at Hooters of Fairview Heights now for 2 years. I got the job the summer after I came back from school in Carbondale. I abolutely love my job and it upsets me that people have such a bad stereotype against it. I am well aware of the puns made on the name of the restaurant and the reason why many people do not want to eat there. However, I encourage ANYBODY to come in and eat with us and I promise we will change your mind and stereotype against the place. We love families, elders, bachleor
parties, bacheorette parties, baby showers, people eating by themselves and just people in general!! We treat everyone the same and I have never seen a harder working crew of people. From the managment, to the staff guys, to the cooks and down to the girls, they all works so very hard at their job and to ultimately change people's mind about the restaurant. We have great food and even better service and I can't picture a better job for me to have while I have school and a tedious class schedule. I get to make my own schedule and have instant cash to take home at the end of the night. I can only encourage people to come in and see how hard we work and get sit back and relax and hang out! We love to hae fun and meet new people :)
