CS 434 Database Design and Development Project Summer 1997
Your assignment will be to design and develop a database to hold student, faculty, and course information. The first phase, an entity-relationship model will be due on July 10; the second phase, a relational design, will be due on July 17; and the final project will be due Tuesday, July 30.
Your database will either store or produce the following information about students: name, address (street, city, state, zip), phone, SSN, major(s), grade point average, hours completed, copurses taken (what, when), grades.
Your database will either store or produce the following information about courses: Course number, name, description, prerequisites
Your database will either store or produce the following information about faculty: name, address, phone, office, office phone, email address, courses taught (what, when)
Your database will produce the following reports:
List of students ordered by name
List of students ordered by grade point average
List of students ordered by zipcode
List of students ordered by hours
Transcript for student sorted by when taken with summaries for each term
Transcript for student sorted by department course offerings with summarized for each department
Course section grade list with instructor, summary of total student grade oint average
Summary of instructor grade distribution for sections taught in given term
Summary of instructor grade distribution for all times offering given course
List of instructors offering given course in decreasing order of student grade average in sections offered.
Additional refinements may be added as project develops.
