Marlene Sevilla Andris

Marlene Sevilla Andris was born on July 30, 1934 to Alphonse Octave Andris and Gladys Nerilla Stoffel. She was raised in Marietta, Ohio. She has two younger sisters, Geraldine Victorine and Sharon Kay Andris. Her mother suffered from a brain tumor and epilepsy for several years and died on September 24, 1951. Marlene had been married to John Hunter but left her two weeks after her mother's death.

After Gladys died, her father did not always come home at night, and this was difficult for the girls. A couple of times, they left him a note on his unmade bed to let him know of their concern. When she was 18, Marlene went to Detroit for a few months with another young woman. However, she decided to go to New Mexico where John Hunter was stationed in the military and ask him about his intentions. When she arrived there, he told her that he wanted to separate. Apparently he had been dating other women there. Returning from New Mexico, I stopped at San Diego, California and found a place to live at Mission Beach, California. She found a room quite near the beach and got a job there. In a while, she met Paul Sherlon Imes, who was stationed in the military there.

Marlene returned to Marietta where her father helped her to obtain a divorce from John. Marlene and Paul were married on September 11, 1953. Her sister, Geraldine, was maid of honor. Marlene became pregnant with their first child. However, he had to return to duty. Marlene found a room with an older woman who helped her with her first pregnancy when she baby sat for her three children there. Paul Sherlon Imes, Jr. was born on July 1, 1954.

Paul Imes finished his military duty and, after a month long visit to Ohio to their parents, he and Marlene went to Longview, Texas where he took a course in engineering that was completed in 1957. Pamela Joy Imes is their second child. Their third child, Holly Annette, was born there on December 3, 1957 and Robin Denise was born on May 27, 1959. While Marlene was in Longview, she was joined there with her sister, Sharon Kay, who eventually settled there with her husband, Melvin Wolverton and daughter, Tamela.

In 1969 The Imes' family moved to the Cedar Falls-Waterloo, Iowa area. It wasn't long until Paul and Marlene separated. She met her third husband, Roger John Sagert, and they were married on June 9, 1972. They have lived for the last 20 years at 3423 Woodridge Dr. Roger had two children by a previous marriage. David Carl Sagert, who is 28 years old, is married to Kelly Voss, and they have a young son, Gage. Pamela Sue Sagert has married Robert Tarr.

Marlene and Roger have a daughter, Dawn Janelle Sagert, born February 5, 1975. Dawn has a daughter, Brittny Janelle Sagert, born December 3, 1990.

Marlene also has one younger half brother, Ricky and two younger half sisters Jan and Theresa. Their mother is Ethel Turrill, who married Alphonse after two of the children were born. Ethel had one son, Don, now deceased, by another marriage. Marlene's father, Alphonse, died on January 11, 1984.

Marlene's first child, Paul Sherlon Imes, Jr. married a Greek woman. They have four children, Angela, Anna Maria, Alexcia, and Paul Sherlon, III.

Her daughter Pamela Joy married Dale Hansen. Their three children are Crystal Eve, Charis Hope and Casey Lea.

Marlene's daughter Holly Annette married Burton Harold Glasener on December 28, 1979 in Waterloo, IA. He was born on November 8, 1954 in Waterloo. She atttended Pinetree School in Longview, Texas and Cedar Falls High School. They have two children, Bradlee Howard, born on January 14, 1982 and Hilary Annette, born on February 25, 1985. Both were born in Cedar Falls.

Marlene's daughter Robin Denise married Bruce Dean Rogers on July 25, 1986 in Waterloo, IA. He was born in Waterloo on June 22, 1959, and his parents are Paul E. Rogers, deceased, from Springfield, MO, and Helen Murray Rogers from Waterloo. He works at a lumber and hardware store in Waterloo. Her children are Derek Paul, born September 22, 1987, Noel Denise, born December 21, 1988 and Courtney Lynn, born May 15, 1991, all in Waterloo, IA.

Marlene and her three daughters have formed a women's singing group, "A Ray of Hope," and perform at various church and social functions in the area.

Alphonse Octave Andris was born in Binche, Belgium on November 6, 1906 and died in Marietta Memorial Hospital on January 11, 1984. He came to America with his mother and sister Julia when he was quite young. "Torenne" Victorine scrubbed floors and saved money to bring from Belgium her husband, Arthur, and his two sons by another marriage, Arthur, Jr. and Amy. They were glassblowers, and the father was a skilled craftsman. The family lived for a time in Clarksburg, West Virginia because there is a glass factory there.

While Alphonse was still a child, the family moved to Marietta, Ohio, because there was a glass factory across the river in Williamston, WV. However, the family began a grocery store at the corner of Fourth and Green Streets. Arthur suffered from some form of mental illness as the years wore on. In 1937 there was an enormous flood, cresting at 55 feet. Even though the family had moved the groceries to the second floor, the flood destroyed everything. Mrs. Andris never recovered from the shock of this tragedy and died of heart failure about six weeks later.

Victorine left the grocery store to the two brothers, Alphonse and Fernand "Squee." This caused a family feud, since Arthur, Jr. felt that the wealth should have been divided equally. Arthur died without ever speaking again to either of his younger brothers. "Al" and "Squee" shared this family grocery for eleven more years. At one point, a new two-story concrete block store was built at 313 Green Street. Fernand helped the contractor lay the block. This was around 1946. But in 1949, Fernand decided to engage in other endeavors, such as real estate. A settlement was made in which Alphonse kept the store and Fernand received a cash amount. Alphonse continued with the store in that same location until his death in 1984. He also lived around the corner at 107 N. Fourth St. for this time with Ethel Turrill Andris. He was a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. They had three children, Ricky, Jan and Theresa. Ethel had another child, Don, now deceased, by a former marriage.

Gladys Nerilla Stoffel was born in Lowell, Ohio on March 14, 1912 to John W. Stoffel and Sevilla Pryor, who were farmers. John Stoffel died in 1953 and Sevilla died in the summer of 1958. Gladys died September 24, 1951 of a brain tumor in Marietta, Ohio, and is buried in the Pike Street Cemetery out at Reno.

Sevilla had a sister named Tressie Becker. She and her husband had a music store in Huntington, WV. She had a brother named Hershel.

Gladys' siblings were:

Edna Gale Stoffel Pabst Allen. She had no natural children, but adopted James.

Harley lived in Toledo, Ohio. His first wife was Kathryn. He has three children: Gary, Carol and Sharon.

Tressie Wallace, deceased, November, 1992, lived on Rt. 3 in Marietta and was married to Roy, now deceased. They had five children, two now deceased, Ethel and Everett, who was 14 when he died. Their other children are Roy, Jr., Dale and Donald. Roy Jr. lives near his mother at the top of the hill. The sale of her property made her prosperous.

Gladys was the next child.

Floyd lived in Shreveport, Louisiana and had a career in the military. His first wife was Wanda. She lived in Marietta or Williamstown. They had two girls, Jacqueline and Mary. His second wife was Margaret from Shreveport. King may be her maiden name. Their one son, John, was killed when he was 17.
