STATE GOAL 17: Understand world geography and the effects of geography on society, with an emphasis on the United States.

A.   Locate, describe and explain places, regions and features on the Earth.

17.A.3b Explain how to make and use geographic representations to provide and enhance spatial information including maps, graphs, charts, models, aerial photographs, satellite images.

Methods:

1.     Pass out the K-W-L (r) copies

2.     Model how to use the K-W-L (r) by using a different topic such as “The World Series”.

A.  In the KNOW column list what you know about the World           

 Series

B.     In the Want To Know column list everything you want to know about the World Series.

C.    In the LEARNED column will be a list of those things that will be learned about the World Series.

D.     In the Research To Do area write a plan on what we will research about the World Series.

3.     Give students five minutes to individually fill out their K-W-L (r) copy one K-W-L (r) about the East St. Louis History.

4.     Divide class into groups of threes.

5.     Each group will make one K-W-L (r) about the East St. Louis History.

6.     The groups will report their individual information and make one K-W-L (r) about the East St. Louis History.
