Barron Hollanquest Jr.

I am twenty-two years old. I am a senior here at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville. I have two siblings. I have an older brother that is twenty-seven and a younger sister that is nineteen. I was born and raised in Chicago. I lived in Indiana with my mother and father. I attended grammar school there. I moved back to my grandma's house to attend high school. I attended Homewood Flossmoor High School all four years. After High School, I became interested in being a forensic scientist. Law and Order was the main inspiration for wanting to be involved in forensics. I began studying Forensic Science and Criminal Justice at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville in 2011. I received an opportunity to an internship with the Illnois State Police that would begin my sophmore year. I would have been a state trooper making around $54,000 a year once I graduated from college. After the summer of 2012, I decided to change my major my sophomore year because I began to have second thoughts about going into criminal justice. I did not feel that I would love my job. I began to hate the idea of becoming an officer of the law because of past experience with police officers. I ended up declaring into Mass Communication Bachelor of Science. I received a suggestion from a special friend to change my major because of my personality and my communication skills with people. I took the suggestion and compared it to my father’s work ethic. My father is a sales rep for Comcast and he owns a lawn care business. My father is my greatest role model. I've always wanted to own a business like him. I alsochanged my minor to Computer Science. I made this decision because of my understanding of computers. My grandfather was my main inspiration for minoring into Computer Science. He owns a businesss reprograming computers with proper virus protection. Little did I know, both my new major and minor made an excellent combination because my minor classes in Computer Science complement my major classes in Mass Communications. The material I learn in Computer Science helps me understand a lot of material from Mass Communications. I love what I’m studying because it also links to what I do now. I am an experienced photographer for almost two years and will soon be experimenting in videography soon. I learn a lot of useful information from the classes that I am taking. I use almost everything I learn in my up and coming businesses. My long term goal after college is to be successful in my career, as well as being happy in it. I am reaching out to modeling agencies to gain more experience in photography, videography, and modeling. I have recently started my own non-profit organization, called Advocate, to give myself a taste of the fine arts in modeling and marketing. I will be using this organization as a experience reference in my resume for future job opportunities. The purpose of the project is to build my portofolio, market retail goods, and network among my peers here at SIUE.
