About the Area
Situated on 2,660 acres of beautiful woodland atop the bluffs overlooking the natural beauty of the Mississippi River’s rich bottom land and only a short drive from downtown St. Louis, the SIUE campus is home to a diverse student body of more than 13,000.
Historical geography opportunities abound with the Madison County Courthouse, Benjamin Stephenson House, and the neighborhood of LeClaire. LeClaire is a 19th century neighborhood that was a model cooperative village offering affordable homes, a healthful environment, free education, opportunities for recreation and self improvement, and pleasant working conditions at the N.O. Nelson Manufacturing Company.
Along with corn and soybean fields, Edwardsville is also home to numerous distribution hubs taking advantage of site and situation factors that many of us discuss in our introductory geography courses.
