Welcome to CODES
Are you interested in working in small research teams with a faculty member and a community organization to address some of the world’s most pressing problems in a city or town near SIUE?
Community-Oriented Digital Engagement Scholars, or CODES, is a new program for students who want to replace their general education coursework for hands-on learning experiences for credit. In CODES, you’ll practice creative problem solving and learn new technical skills like mapping, data visualization and communicating online as you share your collaborative research with real audiences in the community.
CODES is a selective program designed for students who are:
- A first-generation college student, Black, Latinx, and/or Pell-eligible
- Interested in research and active learning
- Committed to the community and ready to take action
Full Tuition and Fees Award
- For CODE Scholars, SIUE will cover tuition, mandatory fees and course-specific fees; the award will help close the gap after utilizing financial aid from all federal, state and institutional sources including merit-based scholarships
- Participating students may also be eligible for awork-study position to contribute to living expenses
- CODE Scholars must be enrolled full time in a bachelor’s program
- Award is valid for eight semesters
