SUAA members/NCAA Selection Show at First Community Arena
The SIUE Men's Basketball program has reached the NCAA Division I Basketball Playoffs for the first time. You are invited to join members of your SIUE Chapter of the State Universities Annuitants Association (SUAA) at an historical Selection Sunday event on Sunday, March 16, starting at 4 p.m. SUAA members are encouraged to meeting in the lobby of the Student Fitness Center at 3:45 pm before heading over to the First Community Arena at 4:00 p.m.
Did you know that SIUE began its transition to Division I Athletics in 2007, becoming a member of the Ohio Valley Conference in 2008 with full eligibility for post-season in 2012-13? Many of the current SUAA board members played a key role, including:
- Dr. Narbeth Emmanuel, retired Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs, who oversaw Athletics during the transition
- Dr. Bill Retzlaff, who served as the Faculty Athletics Representative from 2011-2013
- Michael Schultz who served on the Task Force recommending the move to Division I to Chancellor Vandegrift
- Jo Gibson, sworn to secrecy by Chancellor Vandegrift about the move, in her role as NCAA Compliance Officer in the Office of the Registrar.
