MAJ Eddie A. Woody
Professor of Military Science
MAJ Eddie A. Woody (E.A.) was born in Oklahoma City, OK to Sheila A. Woody. He graduated Fort Hays State University (FHSU, KS) with a Bachelors of Sociology. He earned a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Colorado. MAJ Woody began his military career as an enlisted Soldier January 1998, as a Specialist in the United States Army Infantry. He was assigned to Alpha Company, 2-6 Infantry Battalion, First Armored Division in Baumholder, GE. While assigned to Alpha Company he earned the privilege of participating in the All-Army wrestling trials. He won the gold medal in freestyle wrestling, and the silver medal in Greco-Roman. He also distinguished himself from his peers by earning the Army’s Commendation Medal during a training rotation to CMTC, Hohenfelds, GE serving as an Infantry Team Leader. Major General George Casey presented the award, who would later become the 36th Chief of Staff for the United States Army.
In April 2001 he completed the Primary Leadership Development Course, and pinned on the rank of Sergeant. In June of 2001 he returned home to Fort Carson, CO as a member of Bravo Company 1-8 Infantry Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. From June 2001 until November 2002 MAJ Woody trained with the Army’s World Class Athlete Program (WCAP). He won another gold medal in the All-Army freestyle trials, and improved on his previous Greco-Roman standing. His performance in 2002 afforded him the opportunity to represent the United States Armed Forces at the Freestyle World Military Championships in Estonia. In December of 2002 he returned to Bravo Company 1-8 IN to prepare with his unit for deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as an Infantry Gun-Team Leader.
During the summer of 2005 he joined the Army Reserves and was promoted to SSG shortly thereafter. He served as the Logistics NCOIC during a second deployment in support of Iraqi Freedom from April 2006 to April 2007. He was direct commissioned into the Officer Corps 28 July 2007. In August 2010 he deployed a third time to CENTCOM, serving in Kuwait as the HHD Commander and S3 for the 651st Regional Support Group. He returned home September 2011 and assessed into the AGR program January 2012 as the Supply and Services Officer for the 451st Sustainment Command (Expeditionary). He served as the Operations and Training Officer for the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program (LOGCAP) Support Brigade and the Support Operations (SPO) Plans Officer for the 475th Quartermaster Group in Farrell, PA before his selection to attend resident Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Before arriving to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville for duties as the Professor of Military Science, he served as the HHC Commander for the Garrison on Fort McCoy, WI (2019-2021).
