Serving as a preceptor to Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) students can be a highly rewarding experience. Incorporating students into your practice setting offers you a chance to give back to the profession, extend your patient care services, and expand your knowledge base.

 Complete a Preceptor Application

  • Visit CORE ELMS and enter code SIUESOP.
  • A member of the Experiential Education Office will contact you as soon as possible

What rotation types are offered at SIUE School of Pharmacy?

Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE)

  • First-year students
    • Two-week experience in the Fall term
    • Complete one assignment of your choice
    • One final evaluation
  • Second-year students
    • Three-week experiences offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms
    • Students are immunization and CPR certified
    • Complete one assignment of your choice
    • One final evaluation
Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE)
  • Fourth-year students
    • Five-week experiences
    • Complete two assignments of your choice
    • Evaluations at midpoint and end of rotation

What does it take to be a preceptor?

  • Licensed pharmacist (in good standing) for at least 12 months
  • Working in the same setting for at least 6 months
  • Professional and ethical role model for students
  • Provide students with positive and constructive feedback
  • Good communication and organization skills
