<h3><a id="purpose">Purpose</a></h3>
<p>The CARI program supports research that shows significant potential for external funding and that supports the mission of departments, colleges, and the university. Specifically, CARI provides funding needed for the resubmissions of competitive proposals.</p>

<h3><a id="eligibility">Eligibility</a></h3>
<p>All full-time continuing members of the faculty may apply to the CARI program. Staff members on continuing appointments who have served as an investigator or co-investigator on an externally sponsored grant are also eligible for the CARI program.</p>
<p>Any major, potentially career-enhancing or career-defining full proposal that was submitted to an external funding agency and was positively reviewed is considered a “competitive application” for the purposes of this program. CARI support is available for only one re-submission per project; multiple applications for resubmission to the same program that are not scientifically distinct will not be considered.</p>
<h3><a id="description">Award Description</a></h3>
<p>Maximum funding will be $6,000 per application, except in unusual circumstances, and will be provided for one year. All line items are allowable and must be fully justified. Anticipated total annual funding available for this program: $60,000.</p>
<h3><a id="checklist">Application Packet Checklist</a></h3>
<p>To obtain the funding agency’s perspective on the reviewer comments and priorities for changes, you are expected to contact the funding agency (e.g., program officer) prior to submitting a CARI proposal.</p>

<h3><a id="terms">Terms and Conditions</a></h3>
<p>Any awarded budget line items must be expended by the proposed submission date in application. Any unspent funds on this date will be forfeited.</p>
<p>The submission of a final report is required within 1 month of project completion.<span> </span> The resubmission of the revised proposal to the funding agency is also required.<span> </span></p>

<h3><a id="process">Review Process</a></h3>
<p>Proposals will be evaluated by a faculty committee appointed by the Graduate School.</p>
