Meet an SIUE Alum!
Kelly is a St. Louis native. She earned two degrees at SIUE and works at the University as the assistant director for transition services in the Office of Academic Advising.
Hi Kelly! Why did you choose SIUE?
I visited SIUE when I was in middle school and fell in love with the campus. Years later, a friend of mine raved about how much she loved being an SIUE student. I applied and was accepted, and the rest is history! I've now been on campus for more than 20 years as a student and a higher education professional. SIUE is home!
What do you want students to know about SIUE?
SIUE is an amazing university! Faculty and staff members are invested in student growth and success, and they want all students to thrive academically and personally. College is where you transition from adolescence to adulthood, and the SIUE family is here to assist with that transition. The support I received from my on-campus mentors played a vital role in my professional development and positive experience at SIUE.
What's your advice to incoming freshmen?
Utilize campus resources. There are so many support systems in place to help you, and it's important that you take advantage of them. Your academic advisor will be your main point of contact for all things SIUE, so make sure you visit with them and stay connected to campus.
What's your most memorable SIUE moment?
Joining my sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Inc. I am an only child, and joining a sorority provided lifelong sisters that I love and cherish to this day. Being in a sorority also afforded me the opportunity to give back to the SIUE campus and the surrounding community.
