This email serves as a reminder to all graduate students completing graduation requirements within the next year to submit the required graduation application before the appropriate deadline. If you have already submitted a graduation application for the current or a future semester, you may disregard this notification. For your convenience, the answers to some commonly asked questions may be found below:
Do I need to submit a graduation application?
Yes, all students are required to submit a graduation application. No degree will be awarded or diploma issued without a graduation application on file for the term in which all requirements will be satisfied.
How do I apply?
Complete the required graduation application online in CougarNet.
Is there an application fee?
There is a $60 application fee. If the application fee is not paid at the time the application is submitted, the fee will be billed to your student account.
When should I apply?
Students are encouraged to apply at any time before the semester deadline, and do not need to wait until they have the fee before applying. Please refer to the 2019-2020 deadlines below.

For which term should I apply?
Apply for the term in which all requirements (coursework and thesis/project) will be complete.
I'm completing all requirements in summer but there is no summer commencement ceremony. For which term should I apply?
Apply for summer term. Students completing graduation requirements in summer term will still officially graduate and receive their diploma for summer term, provided all requirements have been satisfied by the deadline. Students graduating in summer term may choose not to participate in any ceremony, or they may attend either the prior spring or following fall commencement ceremony.
What happens after I submit the application?
Graduate Records will email a degree evaluation letter outlining any remaining requirements and deadlines to you and the Graduate Program Director.
How do I make any changes to my graduation application after I submit the application?
Email the Graduation Department at graduation@siue.edu.
How do I register for commencement?
You must have a graduation application for that term on file. The commencement staff will send an email in that same semester with additional information regarding your intent to participate in the commencement ceremony, as well as order dates for cap and gown. Additional information can be found on the commencement website.
Do I need to attend commencement?
Participation in commencement is optional. Only diploma covers are handed out at the commencement ceremony.
When will I receive my diploma?
Diplomas are mailed to students approximately ten weeks after your graduation term. Please verify your mailing, permanent and email addresses in CougarNet, and update if necessary.
When will my degree be recorded on my official transcript?
The manual review of all graduation applicants' files will begin on the Thursday after finals week. You can view your transcript in CougarNet after this date to determine if your degree has been awarded. The Degree Information at the beginning of the transcript will change from PENDING to AWARDED once the degree has been awarded.
