Gala Planned for October 27

James S. McDonnell Planetarium

Save the date for the School of Nursing's 2nd Biennial Honoring the Past - Empowering the Future Alumni and Friends Gala! The event will be held in the James S. McDonnell Planetarium in St. Louis' Forest Park.

Guests, including alumni, faculty, friends and clinical partners, will marvel as the world's best opto-mechanical star projector provides a simulation of a realistic night sky on an amazing 24-meter dome! They will also experience interactive exhibits and incredible shows that will provide a stellar experience that will never be forgotten.

Classes of '67-'68, '77-'78, '87-'88, '97-'98 and '07-'08 will be reunited and honored. Invitations will be mailed in August.

Premier sponsorships at the $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000 levels are available to help underwrite this iconic gathering. Contact Patti McDonald, senior director development, at 618-650-3906 or pmcdona@siue.edu for more information.

Mission Trip to Costa Rica Provides Transformative Experiences

During spring break 2018, 13 School of Nursing students stepped out of their comfort zones for a week of service and educational activities in Costa Rica. Students provided clinical assistance, helped with health assessments, distributed shoes and backpacks, and assisted with home renovations.

Doctoral Graduates Bring Innovative Solutions to Healthcare

Prior to graduating on May 4, nearly 45 doctoral candidates presented their final practice projects on campus to a crowd of students, faculty, administrators, healthcare professionals and community members. Their projects all involved the analysis of a healthcare issue and, with strong research support, proposed a viable solution they will take with them to affect change during their professional careers.

Student Pursues Calling to Nursing Later in Life

Regardless of the age you choose to pursue a degree, specifically one in nursing, it’s not easy. But, what you gain in return for your nursing efforts is worth more than money can buy.

This is the wisdom shared by School of Nursing graduate Terry Wooten of Godfrey. On May 4, the 61-year-old walked across SIUE’s commencement stage and celebrated having earned a bachelor’s in nursing.

Online Nursing Doctoral and Master’s Degrees for BJC HealthCare

The School of Nursing recently partnered with BJC HealthCare to create a new academic opportunity for BJC HealthCare nurses. Under the agreement, online Master of Science-Nurse Educator and Master of Science-Health Care and Nursing Administration programs will be available to BJC HealthCare nurses throughout its network. In addition, BJC HealthCare nurses will be offered the post-master’s doctor of nursing practice.
