Mission Trip to Costa Rica Provides Transformative Experiences

During spring break 2018, 13 School of Nursing students stepped out of their comfort zones for a week of service and educational activities in Costa Rica. Students provided clinical assistance, helped with health assessments, distributed shoes and backpacks, and assisted with home renovations.

Doctoral Graduates Bring Innovative Solutions to Healthcare

Prior to graduating on May 4, nearly 45 doctoral candidates presented their final practice projects on campus to a crowd of students, faculty, administrators, healthcare professionals and community members. Their projects all involved the analysis of a healthcare issue and, with strong research support, proposed a viable solution they will take with them to affect change during their professional careers.

Student Pursues Calling to Nursing Later in Life

Regardless of the age you choose to pursue a degree, specifically one in nursing, it’s not easy. But, what you gain in return for your nursing efforts is worth more than money can buy.

This is the wisdom shared by School of Nursing graduate Terry Wooten of Godfrey. On May 4, the 61-year-old walked across SIUE’s commencement stage and celebrated having earned a bachelor’s in nursing.
