School of Nursing Most Affordable in Illinois

Online publication College Choice has named SIUE’s School of Nursing as the most affordable nursing degree in Illinois with an average tuition rate of $9,442.

“Delivering our high-quality programs while also ensuring excellent affordability demonstrates our commitment in helping our students achieve their educational aspirations,” said Laura Bernaix, PhD, dean of the School of Nursing. "Our over-arching goal is to increase the number of accomplished nurse clinicians, educators, and leaders in the State of Illinois and surrounding regions.”

Nursing Graduate Programs Experience Explosive Growth

The School of Nursing's innovative graduate programs are experiencing dramatic growth, boasting an approximately 40-percent increase in new students enrolled for fall 2017.

The significant rise comprises strong candidates who identified the value of the education and clinical experiences the School of Nursing offers. SON graduate programs are all experiencing enrollment growth, with the most notable increases occurring in the DNP specializations.

The School of Nursing has 1,435 students (increase of 100 students or 7 percent) enrolled in its doctoral, master’s and baccalaureate programs. The School expects to build on its momentum by introducing a new direct entry program for first time freshmen with a 23 or better ACT score beginning fall 2018.

Diversity Awareness Partnership Conducts Unconscious Bias Training

The regionally acclaimed Diversity Awareness Partnership (DAP) discussed ways to lessen prejudice at the Unconscious Bias Training workshop held Thursday, Sept. 21 for faculty and staff in the SIUE Schools of Pharmacy and Nursing.

DAP used real-world examples to demystify the elusive concept of unconscious bias. The program’s purpose was to bring healthcare colleagues together to listen, talk and learn how unconscious bias can affect daily interactions with students, colleagues and patients.
