Choose Live-On for fall 2018-spring 2019

As a diverse residential community, SIUE houses nearly 3,300 students on campus. Living on-campus is the best way to get involved in campus activities, find support and meet lifelong friends. Choose to return to campus as an upperclass student at SIUE! Choose from three housing options: Evergreen Hall, Cougar Village Apartments, and the upperclass wing in the residence hall. Current residents who wish to live on-campus for fall 2018 can complete the post-process application for space at siue.edu/housing/apply. The deadline to apply is May 1 and a $200 advance payment is required.

Celebrating Student Success in Housing

Over 700 University Housing residents made the Dean’s List this past fall. Each student was invited to attend the annual University Housing Dean’s List reception in February. This year’s reception was held on February 6 in Evergreen Hall and was attended by more than 130 students and their guests. Students were invited to bring a family member, friend or anyone who has contributed to their academic success at SIUE. Campus administrators, faculty members and housing staff were on hand to support the academic achievements of these students.

This year’s reception focused on celebrating each student’s academic success and pride in SIUE. Chancellor Randy Pembrook, PhD, and Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Denise Cobb, PhD. gave brief remarks, and students were given the opportunity to network with one another, staff and faculty. Many students and their guests took advantage of a photo station, and each Dean’s List recipient was gifted a Dean’s List pin. To see photos and video from the Dean’s List reception, please visit facebook.com/siuehousing.

It is University Housing’s privilege to support and celebrate our residents. It is our hope that this event will continue to grow, and more students, faculty and staff will be part of this celebration. Congratulations again to our Dean’s List recipients!

Notes from the Central Housing Office

Canceling the Housing Contract

The Single Student Housing Contract covers the nine-month academic year, August - May. Residents wishing to cancel their housing contract must follow the cancellation procedures described in the Single Student Housing Terms and Conditions.

Canceling housing during the contract period is limited to the following reasons: withdrawal, graduation, academic suspension, marriage, serious illness, military induction, counseling considerations, and death in the immediate family. The cancellation form and the complete Terms and Conditions of the University Housing contract may be found online at siue.edu/housing/application-costs/forms.shtml.

Cancellation Deadlines

Contracts beginning May term 2018: written cancellations must be received by May 4, 2018.

Contracts beginning summer 2018: written cancellations must be received by May 25, 2018.

Contracts beginning fall 2018 - spring 2019: Residents must notify the Central Housing Office of their intention to cancel their University Housing contract for fall 2018 - spring 2019 in writing on or before May 1, 2018, in order to receive a refund of their $200 advance payment. Failure to cancel the Housing contract prior to May 1, 2018, will result in the forfeiture of the $200 advance payment.

If a decision to cancel University Housing is made over the summer, residents must cancel their contract in writing by August 1, 2018. At this point they forfeit the $200 but are able to cancel their contract. After August 1, 2018, cancelling is limited to the eight approved reasons.

Proper Check-Out Procedure

Bluff, Prairie and Woodland Hall

Students are expected to check-out within 24 hours of their last final. Bluff, Prairie and Woodland Hall will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018. All students must be properly checked-out and have all belongings out of the building by that time. Improper check-out will result in a $25 charge.

Cougar Village and Evergreen Hall

Students are expected to check-out within 24 hours of their last final. Evergreen Hall and Cougar Village residents not staying for the May term will need to vacate their apartments by noon on Saturday, May 5, 2018. The only exception is graduating seniors who have until noon on Sunday, May 6, 2018. All students must be properly checked-out and have all belongings out of their unit by that time. Improper check-out will result in a $25 charge.

Please note: All residents who are moving to Cougar Village for the summer term and do not have a May term

contract, are required to vacate their spring space by the weekend of May 5. They will not be able to move into their summer assignment until Sunday, May 27, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.

If a student has a May term contract, they should stay in their spring space until given the date to move into their new assignment. Please keep in mind that students staying for the May term and summer term will placed in their fall assignment, if possible. This will eliminate the need to move again between the summer and fall sessions. However, limited spaces are open in the summer so it is not always possible for a student to move directly into their fall space. If you have any questions, please contact the Central Housing Office.

Play in the sun, and shine in class!

Registration opened March 26 for summer classes. Encourage your child to take advantage of nearly 1,000 summer courses, including more online classes than ever before. Students can take an online course while working or doing an internship.

Summer session is a great way for students to complete an extra course—saving money by staying on track to graduate. Many summer classes meet for five weeks or less. Students can lighten their class load for fall, stay within their course sequence, benefit from smaller class sizes and be taught by full-time faculty members.

If students choose to study on campus, comfortable apartment-style housing is available for the entire summer semester, a five-week session or May term.
