Your Student can be a Mover and Shaker

Do you remember the sea of orange that helped your freshman student move into the residence halls? Of course you do! Our upperclass volunteers make a major impact on Move In Day. Now it is your student’s turn! Move In Crew volunteers partner with University Housing to help move new freshmen into their living space in August. Student volunteers can register online at siue.edu/housing/moveincrew.

Registration deadline is July 1, 2019, and is limited to the first 525 volunteers, so encourage your student to register early! Once a student signs up they have committed to being part of the Crew.

  • Volunteers move back early to campus on Wednesday, August 14, 2019
  • Volunteers help move-in freshmen on Thursday, August 15, 2019
  • Volunteers receive a Movers and Shakers t-shirt
  • Volunteers get a free meal pass

Questions? Contact Kira Long at housing@siue.edu or 618-650-3863.

Cleaning Contract

Residents will receive a Cleaning Contract from their RA at the April Community Meeting. Complete this document to ensure all necessary cleaning is done with the appropriate division of responsibility, especially if one roommate/suitemate is leaving earlier than the others. This will help ensure that the proper individual is held responsible for damages, etc. Your student should return the Cleaning Contract to their RA by 4:00 pm on Friday, May 3, 2019.

Provide mail-forwarding information

If your student is moving out of University Housing, they will need to provide mail-forwarding information. Your student can find information about how to provide Housing with a forwarding address in their SIUE email account. Mail will not be forwarded if your student does not provide us with this information; it will be returned to sender.

Choose Live-On for Fall 2019-Spring 2020

As a diverse residential community, SIUE houses nearly 3,300 students on campus. Close proximity to classes, reasonable cost, and a strong community environment make living on-campus an enticing choice. Our upperclass living options all offer shared and private bedrooms and enjoy the same amenities as first year students - Internet access, expanded basic cable, computer lab, laundry, mail facilities, and more. Living on-campus is the best way to get involved in campus activities, find support and meet lifelong friends. Choose to return to campus as an upperclass student at SIUE!

Choose from three housing options: Evergreen Hall, Cougar Village Apartments, and the upperclass wing in the residence hall.

Current residents who wish to live on-campus for fall 2019 can complete the post-process application for space at siue.edu/housing/apply. The deadline to apply is May 1 and a $200 advance payment is required.

Recycle unwanted items

Instead of throwing unwanted clothes in the trash, your student can donate them! All they have to do is bag up and drop the unwanted items in the large cardboard USAgain boxes in the lobby of the residence hall starting Wednesday, May 1st. Bags are provided and can be found by the donation boxes. Please visit www.usagain.com to learn more about USAgain.

Items that can be donated:
Clothes: t-shirts, blouses, skirts, dresses, pants, jeans, coats, sweaters, bras, underwear, etc.
Footwear: sneakers, boots, sandals, leather shoes, socks, etc.
Accessories: hats, handbags, gloves, belts, scarves, backpacks.
Linens: bedding (sheets, comforter, pillow cases), blankets, towels, drapes, etc. (NO CARPETING PLEASE)

Have unwanted food and toiletries?
Donation boxes will be available for you to drop off food items that you no longer want in the lobby of your building starting Wednesday, May 1st. The food will be donated to the Cougar Cupboard.

Take bikes home!

If your student has a bike on campus please make sure they take it with them when they leave. Any bikes that are left will be collected by UHFM staff after closing!

Play in the sun, and shine in class!

Registration for summer classes is open. Encourage your child to take advantage of nearly 1,000 summer courses, including more online classes than ever before. Students can take an online course while working or doing an internship.

Summer session is a great way for students to complete an extra course—saving money by staying on track to graduate. Many summer classes meet for five weeks or less. Students can lighten their class load for fall, stay within their course sequence, benefit from smaller class sizes and be taught by full-time faculty members.

If students choose to study on campus, comfortable apartment-style housing is available for the entire summer semester, a five-week session or May term.
