Meet Megan McCart, MSW student

As she completed her bachelor's degree in Psychology from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, Megan McCart decided to pursue her master's degree in social work from SIUE due to its outstanding reputation. Now, as both a MSW student and a graduate assistant for the Social Work Department, Megan is making her mark and contributing to the success of the program.

Megan's primary responsibilities in her GA position and practicum placement have involved enhancements to the undergraduate practicum experience, program evaluation, and student orientation. She has received high praise from the Department of Social Work Chairperson, Dr. Kimberly Carter, on her leadership skills, innovative thinking, dependability, and the initiative she consistently demonstrates in her work. As Megan created training modules for undergraduate practicum students, she independently observed the need for content on professionalism and social media. She created a module around this topic and it has received rave reviews from participants. She has also assisted in the development of important policy work in the department around field practicum entry which aligns with the Social Work Code of Ethics.

As Megan anticipates graduation from the MSW program in spring 2023, she plans to pursue licensure to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and ultimately work in either private practice or an inpatient facility with either teenagers or veterans.
