Graduate Scholar Award Now Open

The Graduate Scholar Award provides financial support in the form of tuition waivers to academically qualified individuals who are underrepresented—nationally or at SIUE—in their academic discipline.

For the purpose of this award, "underrepresented" refers to any individual who identifies with one or more cultural, ethnic, gender, racial, sexual orientation or disability group that has been historically/traditionally underrepresented in our graduate programs. 

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria: 

  • Be a member of a group or groups historically/traditionally underrepresented in their desired graduate program
  • Be admitted as a classified (degree-seeking) graduate student
  • Have no graduate credit hours at SIUE (must be a new SIUE graduate student)
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate courses, and any previous graduate courses not taken at SIUE
  • Must not be eligible for a tuition waiver as a State of Illinois Civil Service University employee
  • Must not be an SIUE employee (student workers are eligible)
  • Submit a written statement of 350 words or less describing how you are underrepresented in your chosen discipline

Completed applications must be submitted by March 1.
