SIUE East St. Louis Charter High School's (CHS) annual Angel Tree giving campaign is underway.

This is your opportunity to make this holiday season a memorable one for the students at CHS.

As winter approaches, the CHS staff would like to ensure that all of its students experience the joy of the holiday season. This year, the goal is to give every CHS student a new sweatshirt and to give additional winter gear to the neediest students.

Unfortunately, our students have needs year round for things like school supplies and school uniforms. This year, please consider making a recurring donation that will help to make CHS students successful all year long.

Now through Friday, Dec. 13, we will be accepting donations to the Angel Tree giving program. Click here to donate to CHS Angel Tree online using a credit card.

We also accept cash or checks. Checks should be made payable to the SIUE Foundation and sent to Anne Moore, CHS treasurer, Campus Box 1049. Please drop off any cash donations to Moore in Alumni Hall, Room 1134.

Seed Grants for Transitional and Exploratory Projects

Seed grants for Transitional and Exploratory Projects (STEP) provides seed funding on a competitive basis to SIUE faculty and staff to support research and creative activities. Seed funding is intended to encourage faculty to initiate new research directions or new research projects. Seed grant funding is not intended to sustain or supplement current research programs but rather to:

  • Help junior faculty undertake pilot projects that will aid in establishing their careers as independent investigators and enable them to successfully apply for extramural funding
  • Help established faculty perform transitional and exploratory research, particularly on novel or pioneering ideas, to determine project feasibility, and to develop preliminary data to support extramural applications.

Pending availability of funds, funding is for one fiscal year (July 1-June 30) and is awarded by budget line item. All line items must be allowable costs. Awards will not exceed $16,000; typical awards range from $5,000 to $10,000.

Proposals must be submitted electronically to siueresearch@siue.edu by 4:30 p.m. on February 21, 2020.

Please visit the STEP website for full eligibility, workshop details and more.

An additionally $1,000 will be awarded to the best STEP application out of the pool of eligible proposals. Details will be provided in the electronic application materials. For further information about eligibility, please visit the Annette and Henry Baich Award website.
