Empty Bowls Charity Event, Today

The SIUE Rotaract Club and the Metro East Community Rotary Club will host The Empty Bowls charity event:

The cost is $10, which includes all-you-can-eat soups, drinks and dessert favorites from more than 23 local vendors. Tickets can be purchased at the MUC Welcome Desk.

All proceeds benefit the Cougar Cupboard and local hunger programs.

Phi Kappa Phi's Book Exchange Ends Today

The SIUE Chapter 203 of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society concludes its regular book exchange:

Members of the SIUE community are invited to bring a book, and then take one from the inventory available. Book purchases can also be made for a nominal cost. Hardbacks are $1, and paperbacks are two for $1.

Phi Kappa Phi is open to all academic disciplines. Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897, and is one of the nation’s oldest and most selective honor societies for all academic disciplines. Chapter 203 was established at SIUE in 1978.

School of Engineering Hosts 2nd Energy Symposium

The SIUE School of Engineering (SOE) is hosting its second annual ‪‪SIUE Energy Symposium at 1 p.m. today in the Dunham Hall Theater. The day will focus upon energy topics, and awareness of alternative and clean energy sources.

The afternoon begins with a poster session featuring presentations on alternative energy resources, followed by comments from SIUE Chancellor Randy Pembrook and Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Denise Cobb.

The featured event at 2:30 p.m. is the hydropower vs. wind energy debate. ‪The debate is open to the public. Representatives from higher education, alternative energy, corporate leadership, public utilities, energy consultants and environmental agencies will serve as debate judges.

A networking hour closes the day.

Call for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award Applications, Due Nov. 22

SIUE is pleased to announce the solicitation of nominations for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award. 

This annual award recognizes both an outstanding community member and an SIUE faculty/staff member who exemplifies the humanitarian qualities and philosophy of nonviolent social change as espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The winner will be recognized at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Luncheon at SIUE on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020. 

Nominations for this prestigious award are invited. Please consider nominating someone in your office or affiliate organization(s). Additional information, including the Call for Nominations and Nomination Form can be found at siue.edu/csdi/events

Payroll Deduction Option Available for Student Fitness Center Membership

SIUE faculty and staff will have the option to sign up for payroll deduction for a Student Fitness Center membership.

  • Membership is in effect from the date that you sign up through December 1, 2020
  • Four equal payments of $60 will be deducted from each January and February paycheck

You can sign up through the end of November at the Student Fitness Center Reception Desk.

Resident Assistant qualifications include:

  • Turn in a completed application by the appropriate deadline: 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4
  • Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA by the time you assume the position (RAs are required to maintain a 2.5 GPA)
  • Cannot be graduating before May 2021
  • Cannot be involved with a full-time internship/co-op, student teach or enrolled in the School of Pharmacy program during the 2020-2021 academic year
  • Have lived in University Housing for at least two full semesters by the time you would begin as an RA (summer is counted as a semester)
  • Be in good financial, academic and behavioral conduct standing with the University
