MFA Creative Writing Program Launches New Podcast

The MFA Creative Writing Program launched its new podcast, Writers in the World, on Monday, Nov. 18.

Host Grant Deam, English Language and Literature teaching assistant, interviews current students, faculty and visiting writers about MFA programs, artistic and personal journeys, elements of craft and more.

New episodes will be released every Monday.

Be sure to tune in on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts to hear Writers in the World.

Phi Kappa Phi's Book Exchange, Today and Tomorrow

The SIUE Chapter 203 of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society is sponsoring its regular book exchange:

Members of the SIUE community are invited to bring a book, and then take one from the inventory available. Book purchases can also be made for a nominal cost. Hardbacks are $1, and paperbacks are two for $1.

Phi Kappa Phi is open to all academic disciplines. Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897, and is one of the nation’s oldest and most selective honor societies for all academic disciplines. Chapter 203 was established at SIUE in 1978.

SIUE Department of Music presents the Faculty Showcase Concert, celebrating 25 years of College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).

Empty Bowls Charity Event, Nov. 20

The SIUE Rotaract Club and the Metro East Community Rotary Club will host The Empty Bowls charity event:

The cost is $9, which includes all-you-can-eat soups, drinks and dessert favorites from more than 23 local vendors. Tickets can be purchased at the MUC Welcome Desk.

Women's Shelter Collection Drive through Nov. 21

The “Let's Hear it for the Girls!” collection drive for women homeless shelters in the St. Louis-Metro East area is underway.

Madalynn McKenzie, a senior and student senator for the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior, is collecting clean, gently used bras, feminine products and newly packed underwear for women in homeless shelters.

Please drop off your items in the Student Government office, Student Success Center, room 1280. Items will be collected until Thursday, Nov. 21.

Limited Submissions for NSF MRI Program

The National Science Foundation's (NSF) Major Research Instrumentation Grant (MRI) program accepts applications for projects to purchase major equipment in support of outstanding research initiatives in a region.

Limit on number of proposals per organization:
NSF limits the number of proposals submitted by an organization to the following:

  • Two proposals – Track 1: fund request greater than $100,000 but less than $1,000,000 and 1 proposal; Track 2: fund request greater than or equal to $1,000,000 and up to and including $4,000.

Notice of Intent email should be submitted to Diane Cox at diacox@siue.edu or 650-5886 by Thursday, Nov. 21. Pre-proposal applications are due by Thursday, Dec. 12.

Call for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award Applications, Due Nov. 22

SIUE is pleased to announce the solicitation of nominations for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award. 

This annual award recognizes both an outstanding community member and an SIUE faculty/staff member who exemplifies the humanitarian qualities and philosophy of nonviolent social change as espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The winner will be recognized at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Luncheon at SIUE on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020. 

Nominations for this prestigious award are invited. Please consider nominating someone in your office or affiliate organization(s). Additional information, including the Call for Nominations and Nomination Form can be found at siue.edu/csdi/events

The deadline for nominations must be submitted by Friday, Nov. 22. Please submit all completed nominations to Dianne Albl, Campus Box 1058, Edwardsville, IL  62026-1158.

CSDI Hosts MLK Day of Service Donation Drive

The Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion (CSDI) is hosting a donation drive for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Donations will be taken until Friday, Dec. 20 and can be dropped off:
