Lifelong Learning Speaker Series, Today

The SIUE Office of Educational Outreach invites you to attend the fall 2019 Lifelong Learning Speakers Series every Wednesday on the SIUE campus.

1:15-2:30 p.m. - “Medications for Treating Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, ”  presented by Mark Ruscin, PharmD, chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice

Cost: $5 for general public, $2 for Lifelong Learning members and FREE for current staff, faculty, and students (with valid student ID).

IRIS Center Presents Digital Community Engagement with Washington Park, Nov. 15

The IRIS Center will present Digital Community Engagement with Washington Park:

Sociology and environmental science graduate students are working with Derissa Davis, an elementary teacher in the Village of Washington Park, to help materialize her vision of a community garden. Members of The Tiny Children’s Garden Team will present a synopsis of their use of digital tools to practice applied sociology, and to amplify the voices and desires of their collaboration partner and her community.

The team will provide an overview of the digital pieces and outline their role in the collaboration, including how they contribute to shifting the dominant deficit-based narrative of the community to one that highlights the community’s rich cultural capital.

Coffee and pastries will be served.

The SIUE Rotaract Club and the Metro East Community Rotary Club will host The Empty Bowls charity event:

Payroll Deduction Option Available for Student Fitness Center Membership

SIUE faculty and staff will have the option to sign up for payroll deduction for a Student Fitness Center membership.

  • Membership is in effect from the date that you sign up through December 1, 2020
  • Four equal payments of $60 will be deducted from each January and February paycheck

You can sign up through the end of November at the Student Fitness Center Reception Desk.

Know an Outstanding Student Leader? Encourage Them to Apply to be a Resident Assistant!

The 2020-2021 Resident Assistant application is now open. The RA application can be found online.

Resident Assistant qualifications include:

  • Turn in a completed application by the appropriate deadline: 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4
  • Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA by the time you assume the position (RAs are required to maintain a 2.5 GPA)
  • Cannot be graduating before May 2021
  • Cannot be involved with a full-time internship/co-op, student teach or enrolled in the School of Pharmacy program during the 2020-2021 academic year
  • Have lived in University Housing for at least two full semesters by the time you would begin as an RA (summer is counted as a semester)
  • Be in good financial, academic and behavioral conduct standing with the University
