Researcher Anu Khadka's Presentation, Today

The Lovejoy Library and the STEM Center will present Anu Khadka, master's student in environmental science, who will present recently published research.

Khadka researched landslide susceptibility mapping along the road corridor from Bandeu to Barabise and sediment loss estimation in the Sindhupalchwok District, Nepal.

The STEM Journal Club is an open campus group sponsored by Lovejoy Library and the STEM Center. Our meetings are devoted to discussing STEM research (on or off campus) and/or relevant journal articles on any STEM subject. Please join the conversation!

Gerald “Jerry” O’Brien, PhD, professor in the Department of Social Work, will present the 2019 Going Lecture for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS):

His topic will be “Eugenics, Genetic Innovations and the Minority Group Model of Disability.” Sign language interpreters will be present during the free lecture.

A panel discussion will take place following the Going Lecture. Panelists will include Cathy Contarino, executive director, Impact Center for Independent Living in Alton; Dominic Dorsey, director of SIUE’s Accessible Campus Community and Equitable Student Support (ACCESS) Office; Alison Reiheld, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Philosophy; and E. Duff Wrobbel, PhD, chair and professor in the Department of Applied Communication Studies.

O’Brien is the recipient of the 2019 William and Margaret Going Endowed Professorship Award in CAS, which recognizes faculty in the College who have outstanding teaching, scholarly accomplishments and/or creative activity.

The award is open to all full-time, tenure-track faculty and carries a stipend. The endowed professorship lasts for one year, and awardees provide a public presentation or lecture at the end of this appointed time.

Kindermusik Late Fall Enrollment, Registration Deadline Nov. 15

Kindermusik announces its new 4-week class offerings.

For more information on classes and registration forms, visit siue.edu/kindermusik. A credit card online payment option is now available at siue.edu/suzuki/current-parents-students/index.shtml. In the “Select what you are paying" option, choose “Kindermusik" in the dropdown column. There is a percentage fee for credit card transactions.

Please note that your credit card payment must be made before or when you turn in your class registration form. If you do pay by credit card, please make that note on your registration form.

Lace up your sneakers, we're going out on the town! We'll visit the city and see what there is to see, then head out into the country to check that out, too. Limited Submissions for NSF MRI Program

The National Science Foundation's (NSF) Major Research Instrumentation Grant (MRI) program accepts applications for projects to purchase major equipment in support of outstanding research initiatives in a region.

Limit on number of proposals per organization:
NSF limits the number of proposals submitted by an organization to the following:

  • Two proposals – Track 1: fund request greater than $100,000 but less than $1,000,000 and 1 proposal; Track 2: fund request greater than or equal to $1,000,000 and up to and including $4,000.

Notice of Intent email should be submitted to Diane Cox at diacox@siue.edu or 650-5886 by Thursday, Nov. 21. Pre-proposal applications are due by Thursday, Dec. 12.

Women's Shelter Collection Drive through Nov. 21

The “Let's Hear it for the Girls!” collection drive for women homeless shelters in the St. Louis-Metro East area is underway.

Madalynn McKenzie, a senior and student senator for the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior, is collecting clean, gently used bras, femine product and newly packed underwear for women in homeless shelters.

Please drop off your items in the Student Government office, Student Success Center, room 1280. Items will be collected until Thursday, Nov. 21.

Call for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award Applications, Due Nov. 22

SIUE is pleased to announce the solicitation of nominations for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award. 

This annual award recognizes both an outstanding community member and an SIUE faculty/staff member who exemplifies the humanitarian qualities and philosophy of nonviolent social change as espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The winner will be recognized at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Luncheon at SIUE on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020. 

Nominations for this prestigious award are invited. Please consider nominating someone in your office or affiliate organization(s). Additional information, including the Call for Nominations and Nomination Form can be found at siue.edu/csdi/events
