Don't Miss the Chancellor's Annual Address, Today

Please join us for Chancellor Pembrook’s annual address to the University.

Dr. Pembrook will provide a brief overview of the many successes and challenges of the past year. He will also discuss future plans designed to maintain SIUE’s positive momentum.

Fresh vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and more, will be available for purchase. The Beet Box accepts cash or card. Customers can also use their Illinois Link Card.

Details on the Beet Box’s weekly stops are available on the Goshen Market Foundation’s Facebook page.

The market on wheels is among the initiatives supported by SIUE’s food sustainability consortium, a constellation of courses, projects and services related to agricultural education and food access.

Town Hall Meeting to Prevent Underage Drinking and Substance Abuse, Oct. 29

Join in a town hall meeting to discuss topics related to decision-making around alcohol and substance use.

Solid Lines Productions will perform two scenarios related to using/not using alcohol and substances. There will be a number of booths for attendees to visit related to the topic. Attendance prizes will be raffled off.

This event is a result of receiving a grant from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). It is a collaborative effort among Counseling Services, Prevention Education and Advocacy Center (PEACe), the Office of Dean of Students, the Kimmel Student Involvement Center, Athletics, School of Pharmacy, Psychology Club, Fraternity and Sorority Life, SIUE Police and Art Therapy Counseling/Art Hives.

Come Out for the Fowler Student Design Center Grand Opening, Oct. 30

The SIUE School of Engineering (SOE) will hold a grand opening for the state-of-the-art Fowler Student Design Center (FSDC).

The FSDC was made possible by a generous $1.25 million gift from the Fowler Family, combined with other contributions from major donors, such as Ed Grady and Ralph Korte.

SOE Dean Cem Karacal will oversee the ceremony. SIUE Chancellor Randy Pembrook and Jonathan Fowler will headline a variety of speakers, including Grady, who sponsored the FSDC’s second floor, and SOE student Holly Liebel.

Following the remarks, tours of the facility will be provided.

Campus Recreation Club Sports Program Raising Money for Breast Cancer Research

Campus Recreation’s Club Sports program is once again raising money and awareness for breast cancer research, a disease that severely impacts students and their families.

Special Club Sports pink T-shirts will be sold at various Club Sports events during the month of October.

The Sport Club Executive Council will vote at their next executive meeting to select a charity to donate the funds.

Green Dot is a comprehensive violence prevention program with objectives to decrease the likelihood of dating and domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault.

The intent of the education sessions is to train faculty and staff to endorse, model and support two Green Dot values: (1) power-based personal violence is not tolerated in our campus community, and (2) everyone will do their part to prevent violence.

Kindermusik announces its new 4-week class offerings.

Lace up your sneakers, we're going out on the town! We'll visit the city and see what there is to see, then head out into the country to check that out, too. Bear will, of course, go over the mountain and go a-yodeling, too. You never know what adventures you'll have, when you're On the Town with Bear.

Please note: The non-refundable class fee is due in full with the registration form and confirms your space in the class. At least one participating adult must accompany the child(ren) in all classes. Please do not bring non-enrolled siblings.

Women's Shelter Collection Drive through Nov. 21

The "Let's Hear it for the Girls!" collection drive for women homeless shelters in the St. Louis-Metro East area is underway.

Madalynn McKenzie, a senior and student senator for the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior, is collecting clean, gently used bras, femine product and newly packed underwear for women in homeless shelters.

Please drop off your items in the Student Government office, Student Success Center, room 1280. Items will be collected until Thursday, Nov. 21.

Call for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award Applications, Due Nov. 22

SIUE is pleased to announce the solicitation of nominations for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award. 

This annual award recognizes both an outstanding community member and an SIUE faculty/ staff member who exemplifies the humanitarian qualities and philosophy of nonviolent social change as espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The winner will be recognized at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Luncheon at SIUE on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020. 

Nominations for this prestigious award are invited. Please consider nominating someone in your office or affiliate organization(s). Additional information, including the Call for Nominations and Nomination Form can be found at siue.edu/csdi/events
