Lifelong Learning Speaker Series, Today

The SIUE Office of Educational Outreach invites you to attend the fall 2019 Lifelong Learning Speakers Series every Wednesday on the SIUE campus.

Plan to Attend SIUE Strategic Plan Open Forums

One-hour open forums for the SIUE Strategic Plan are now scheduled throughout the coming weeks to present the campus community with draft goals, objectives and key performance indicators.

All forums will be held in the Morris University Center’s International Room, and campus community members are invited to attend and offer feedback toward editing and finalizing the draft statements. All sessions will be streamed live on siue.edu/tv.

Your input is critical in helping to determine SIUE’s course of action from present day to 2025, when the Plan will again be reviewed:

IRIS Center's Using Omeka Presentation, Oct. 25

Assistant Research Professor Zachary Riebeling will examine the basics of planning an Omeka archive website in his presentation, "Using Omeka: Strategies and Possibilities."

Using the Exhibition Plug-in from the Rosenzweig Center for New Media at George Mason University, Riebeling will explore how to create a self-reflexive and internally-differentiated digital exhibit.

The plug-in represents a creative means to bypass the restrictions Omeka places on items and collections, allowing for layered and intersecting exhibit levels. This presentation is especially designed for scholars new to Omeka.

Shrikant Jategaonkar, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Economics and Finance, will give his sabbatical presentation, "Earnings Management by Cross-Listed Growth and Value Firms."

The keynote speaker is Dr. Shelley Park of the University of Central Florida. Her presentation is entitled, "From Helicopter Moms to Smart(er) Homes: Technological Fantasies of Care and Control."

Campus Recreation Club Sports Program Raising Money for Breast Cancer Research

Campus Recreation’s Club Sports program is once again raising money and awareness for breast cancer research, a disease that severely impacts students and their families.

Special Club Sports pink T-shirts will be sold at various Club Sports events during the month of October.

The Sport Club Executive Council will vote at their next executive meeting to select a charity to donate the funds.

Vaughnie Lindsay New Investigator Award

The New Investigator Awards are made to tenure-track SIUE faculty members to recognize and support individual programs of research or creative activities. These awards recognize faculty members whose research or creative activities have the promise of making significant contributions to their fields of study, their respective school/department and to SIUE, in general. Recipients are expected to produce published scholarly works/products and externally sponsored grants/contracts.

As many as two Lindsay New Investigator Awards will be made per year, pending availability of funds. These awards are designed to support a significant and discrete portion of a faculty member’s larger research agenda. A cost-share equaling 20 percent of the total award is required from the applicant’s school/department. Each recipient of the New Investigator Award will receive $10,000 from the Graduate School and $2,500 from their unit  for a one-year period.

Application is due to the Office of Research and Projects by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019.
