Second Annual Diversity Day, Today and Tomorrow

SIUE's second annual Diversity Day celebration, under the theme “From Awareness to Action, SIUE Shaping a Changing World,” will be held today and Tuesday, Oct. 15 with educational and active engagement sessions at the Edwardsville, East St. Louis and Alton campuses.

An opening reception will be held for community stakeholders from 5-6:30 p.m. today in the Cougar Pavilion, located in the Vadalabene Center’s Lukas Annex.

Diversity Day events being held Tuesday, Oct. 15 will begin with an Opening Community Gathering and Welcome Breakfast at 8 a.m. in the Meridian Ballroom. The opening session will feature a School of Business alumni panel.

Social justice advocate Howard Ross will serve as keynote speaker during the Diversity Day luncheon from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Morris University Center’s (MUC) Meridian Ballroom. Howard will highlight his life’s work and his highly-acclaimed book Everyday Bias, which raises readers level of insight and awareness of important issues surrounding unconscious bias.

Other activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Diversity Day Community Fair: 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the MUC Goshen Lounge
  • Parade of Nations: 9:30-10 a.m. from the Meridian Ballroom to the Stratton Quadrangle
  • Athletics, Art Hive and Multicultural Music: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on the Quad
  • Taste of Diversity at SIUE: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the MUC Food Court and Fixins’ Restaurant
  • Community Service Project: 12-1:30 p.m. on the Quad
  • Book Signing with Howard Ross: 1:15-2:15 p.m. in the Meridian Ballroom

Stop by the Beet Box Mobile Farmers Market on the Quad this fall!

Noon-1:30 p.m.
Tuesdays through the end of October

Fresh vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and more, will be available for purchase. The Beet Box accepts cash or card. Customers can also use their Illinois Link Card.

Details on the Beet Box’s weekly stops are available on the Goshen Market Foundation’s Facebook page.

The market on wheels is among the initiatives supported by SIUE’s food sustainability consortium, a constellation of courses, projects and services related to agricultural education and food access.

Plan to Attend SIUE Strategic Plan Open Forums

One-hour open forums for the SIUE Strategic Plan are now scheduled throughout the coming weeks to present the campus community with draft goals, objectives and key performance indicators.

All forums will be held in the Morris University Center’s International Room, and campus community members are invited to attend and offer feedback toward editing and finalizing the draft statements. All sessions will be streamed live on siue.edu/tv

Campus Recreation Club Sports Program Raising Money for Breast Cancer Research

Campus Recreation’s Club Sports program is once again raising money and awareness for breast cancer research, a disease that severely impacts students and their families.

Special Club Sports pink T-shirts will be sold at various Club Sports events during the month of October.

The Sport Club Executive Council will vote at their next executive meeting to select a charity to donate the funds.

Club Ice Hockey Pink in the Rink Game, Oct. 19

Join us for the SIUE Club Ice Hockey’s Annual Pink in the Rink game scheduled on Saturday, October 19 vs. Bradley University.

D2 Hockey plays at 6:45 p.m. and D3 Hockey plays at 9:30 p.m. at the East Alton Ice Arena.

This year, Pink Ice Hockey jerseys will be available for purchase. Proceeds will be donated to a charity in support of breast cancer research.

The cost is $5 for general admission. FREE admission to SIUE Students with valid identification.
