Welcome International Students and Scholars!

Please join the Office of International Affairs in welcoming more than 100 new international students and scholars to SIUE.

In this group, we welcome 12 visiting students, two Global UGrad students and two Fulbright Language Teaching Assistants (who will teach Arabic and Yoruba).

Between now and the end of this year, SIUE will also host more than 18 visiting scholars. 

More than 50 countries will be represented in our international student/scholar population, including India, Nepal, Turkey, China, Vietnam, Belgium, Brazil and Nigeria.

If you see international students or scholars on campus who need assistance, your help is very much appreciated! Feel free to direct any student or scholar needing help to the Office of International Affairs, Student Success Center, room 0300 or call 650.3785.

Volunteer for Late Night Event, Aug. 23

SIUE Campus Recreation is looking for volunteers to help with its 4th Annual Late Night Event, which draws more than 800 students.

Watch for These Fall Groups Forming in Counseling Services

Fall Groups for students interested in a group therapy experience are currently forming. The groups that will be offered this semester are: 

Mindful Mondays:  Mondays 1-2:30 p.m.
Focus on improving overall wellness by discussing and practicing coping skills, mindfulness, self-care and distress tolerance skills. 

Survivors of Silence:  Tuesdays 1-2:30 p.m.
(Facilitated by a Call for Help Counselor)
Gain empowering, confidential, and free support for survivors of sexual violence. 

Understanding Myself and Others:  Wednesdays 1-2:30 p.m. OR Fridays 1-2:30 p.m.
Gain support and learn more about yourself, by giving and receiving interpersonal feedback from a variety of group members and leaders. 

Powerful Minds:  Fridays 10-11:30 a.m.
Learn and apply cognitive-behavioral techniques that can help in managing stress, anxiety and depression.  Identify and decrease unhelpful thought patterns. 

Students can discuss the process of joining a group by calling Counseling Services at 650-2842. Students interested in Survivors of Silence are asked to contact Call for Help directly at 618-397-0975 to set up a brief screening appointment.

When preparing for fall classes, don’t forget the Career Development Center gives presentations on career-related topics.

A career counselor is able to visit classes to give presentations on the following topics, including but not limited to:

  • Resumes
  • Interviewing
  • Networking
  • Job Search
  • Co-ops and Internships
  • LinkedIn
  • Career Assessments
  • Preparing for a Career Fair
  • Social Media
  • Professional Attire and Etiquette

Presentations can be done 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday–Friday or by request. We will do our best to accommodate all requests. However, there will be times when we have limited staff availability.

If you would like your class to use our services (i.e. mock interviews, assessments, resume approvals, etc.), please notify us in advance that your students will be making appointments, as well as description of the class assignment and name of the class.

Lovejoy Library Presents the Dr. Gordon Bush Exhibit, Sept. 10

Join us in celebrating one of SIUE's most distinguished alumni, and former mayor of East St. Louis, Dr. Gordon D. Bush '70 '71. A photographic installation depicting Bush's many accomplishments will be unveiled at this reception in his honor.

Constitution Day Presentation, Sept. 17

The Department of Political Science will host the Constitution Day presentation, "The First Amendment and Speech on College Campuses."
