Yoga for Beginners

Cost: $10 per session 

Yoga for Beginners provides the fundamentals of practice for those getting started in yoga, as well as those with more experience who enjoy gentler movements. You will learn posture alignment, practice breath work through guided demonstration, and reap the benefits of yoga, including improved balance, physical strength, flexibility, relaxation, increased energy and better digestion.

Psychopharmacology: Straight Talk and Geriatrics, Pharmacotherapy and Issues with Polypharmacy

Cost: $85 for attendees, $20 for students 

Drs. Matthew Clark and Chris Herndon will provide an overview of pain management practices in the elderly, methods for avoiding, detecting and treating substance use disorder in an older adult population, and finally germane topics in palliative/end of life care.  

Dr. James Lynch will present on pharmacotherapy and the geriatric population, including topics such as a systematic approach to discontinuing medications, high risk prescribing, and other common problems with medications and the elderly. 

Six CEUs are approved for social workers and counselors upon completion of this workshop.

International Hospitality Program to Collect Used Household Items

The International Hospitality Program (IHP) at SIUE is again organizing its fall semester collection of used household items.

"Back to school" is the perfect time of year to clean out your closets and reorganize! Please consider donating your used household items and furniture to new international students at SIUE.

Household items needed:

  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Sheets
  • Blankets/comforters
  • Towels/wash cloths
  • Lamps
  • Microwaves
  • Rice cookers and blenders
  • Kitchen utensils
  • Pots and pans
  • Dishes
  • Silverware

Bring any of these donations directly to the IHP Welcome Reception:

Student ambassadors and IHP volunteers will be available to assist with unloading any items from your vehcile in upper Lot B.

IHP will also pick up small desks, chairs, reading tables, small book shelves, beds/mattresses (twin and full size only), small sofas/futons, upholstered chairs, kitchen tables and chairs. Please do not bring these items to the reception area.

The IHP welcomes SIUE international students to the area by befriending them and helping them to feel comfortable in their new apartments. SIUE student organizations, faculty, staff, alumni and the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Communities are invited to gather in the Stratton Quad and line the parade path!  Check-in at the Goshen Lounge registration table and stay cool in the MUC until the parade begins. Participants will line the path from the Stratton Quad toward the Vadalabene Center once Academic Convocation concludes. This SIUE tradition sends a heartfelt welcome to our newest Cougars as they join the SIUE community. Feel free to bring spirit gear and welcome signs to demonstrate your SIUE Spirit! Compete for the Most Spirited Department Award and have a chance to win $100 toward a MUC Event Services charge, MUC Marketing charge or a departmental supply order.

We are looking for faculty and staff to accompany new students and student leaders on our new student “Cougars in the Community” service project. This activity puts our SIUE value of Citizenship into action. We are providing service to 10 community agencies in the St. Louis and Metro East area: Arlington Wetlands, Watershed Nature Center, EarthDance Farms, Alton Main Street Community Gardens, Esquiline Community (Belleville), Granite City Community Garden, Beverly Farm, La Vista CSA Farm, Community Hope Center and Willoughby Farm. Bus transportation from Lot B will be provided.
