Deadline Today to Apply for University Staff Senate Fall Scholarship

The University Staff Senate’s deadline for receipt of the entire fall scholarship application packet is 4:30 p.m. today.

The University Staff Senate has established a fund to provide scholarship awards to qualifying SIUE students. To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship award, the student must meet the following criteria:

1. Student must be the son, daughter, grandchild, spouse or civil union partner of a presently employed or retired civil service (excluding non-status) or professional staff employee (excluding appointments of less than 50 percent and term appointments of less than six months) of SIUE.

2. Student must meet admissions requirements for undergraduate study at SIUE and be enrolled for the Fall 2019 semester.

3. Applicants with fewer than 12 semester hours earned in college:

  • Must have an ACT composite of 19 or above (unless exempt because of SIUE’s admission standards)
  • Must have at least a high school GPA of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0=A

4. Applicants with 12 or more semester hours earned in college:

  • Must have completed at least one term as a full-time college student
  • Must have at least a college GPA of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0=A.

5. Applicants may apply more than once during their academic career, but the applicant may receive the award only once every two years.

The scholarship award will be applied to the university account for the semester. This award will be reported to the Office of Student Financial Aid to be considered in evaluating the overall financial aid package. Should this amount combined with other awards or payments cause a credit balance on the account, a refund check will be mailed from the Bursar's Office.

Jeff Lesicko Soon to Retire, July 31

Facilities Management would like to congratulate Carpenter Foreman Jeff Lesicko on his upcoming retirement.

Lesicko has served the SIUE community for 19 years, and his expertise will be greatly missed.

SIUE Tree and Bench Program

SIUE is pleased to offer a tree and bench program to honor and remember friends and relatives. The program is designed to assist the University with planting trees and installing benches in locations that have been identified as appropriate.

Trees can be placed on any one of SIUE's three campuses. Donors can choose from SIUE's approved tree varieties list to have a tree planted in memory of a loved one. The University will select the location for the tree and the donor will be recognized on the SIUE Facilities Management website as a contributor to the Tree Legacy Program. The cost to purchase, install and maintain each tree is $1,500.

Benches can be placed in The Gardens at SIUE. Each bench is installed with an affixed plaque. The cost to purchase, install and maintain the teak wood bench is $3,000. The University will select the location for the bench and keep it in The Gardens for 10 years.

Your purchase of a tree and/or bench helps beautify our campus, creates a sense of ownership and provides a meaningful amenity that thousands of outdoor users can enjoy and appreciate as times go by.

Please note, the purchase of a tree or bench is not tax deductible.

For more information, contact the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration at 650-2536.
