Four candidates were selected to visit campus for the position of Associate Provost for Academic Planning, Assessment and Accreditation. 

The open forum for the second candidate, Dr. Dennis Bouvier, is scheduled for:

Bouvier has taught at SIUE since 2006 and is currently associate professor in the SIUE Department of Computer Science. He served as acting department chairperson from 2010-13 and as department chairperson from 2013-17. Previously, Bouvier taught at Saint Louis University.

University Museum's Opening Art Reception, Today

The SIUE University Museum and the Edwardsville Arts Center are presenting the exhibit, "Pieced: An Assemblage of Historic Quilts" through April 19.

SIUE Highlights Stawar and Regional Tourism

Tourism plays an important role in the success of regions throughout the world. Positioned on 2,660 acres of beautiful woodland atop the bluffs that overlook the natural beauty of the Mississippi River’s rich bottom land, SIUE and its surrounding areas are rich in historical landmarks, attractions and recreational activities available just outside the campus.

On this week’s episode of Segue, SIUE Chancellor Randy Pembrook, interviews Brett Stawar, president of the Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau, formerly known as the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Bureau serves Alton, Grafton, Edwardsville and Collinsville, as well as other communities in Madison, Jersey and Calhoun Counties.

Segue will air at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 31 on WSIE 88.7 FM The Sound and siue.edu/wsie.

Stawar previously served as chair of the Illinois Council of Convention & Visitors Bureau. He is an SIUE alumnus, who earned a master’s in communications in 2005.

Documentary Aired During Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Food and Nutrition Club Presents Galligan, April 5

SIUE Hosts Novelist Vu Tran and Poet TJ Jarrett at Literary Event

SIUE’s new Master in Fine Arts (MFA) in creative writing program will host award-winning novelist Vu Tran and poet TJ Jarrett Friday and Saturday, April 5-6. Both authors will read in The Cougar Store at the Morris University Center (MUC) followed by lively question-and-answer sessions.

At 4 p.m. Friday, Vu Tran will read. He authored the novel, Dragonfish, a New York Times Notable Book and one of the San Francisco Chronicle’s Best Books of the Year. He is the winner of a Whiting Award, and his short stories have appeared in many publications. He teaches creative writing at the University of Chicago.

At 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the MUC’s Mississippi/Illinois Room, SIUE creative writing faculty members will participate in a flash reading. Professors Tiana Clark, Joshua Kryah, Geoff Schmidt and Valerie Vogrin will each read briefly from their work.

At 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jarrett will read. Her debut collection Ain’t No Grave was published by New Issues Press. Her second collection Zion, winner of the Crab Orchard Open Competition 2013, was published by Southern Illinois University Press. Her recent work has been published in Poetry, African American Review, Boston Review, Beloit Poetry Journal, Callaloo, VQR and others. She lives in Nashville, Tenn.

SIUE’s Arts and Issues and the Center for Spirituality and Sustainability Present Orchid Ensemble, April 6

Orchid Ensemble, highly acclaimed and unique musicians who blend a variety of musical styles to produce an intriguing and delightful sound experience for audiences worldwide, will perform:

Orchid Ensemble was nominated to receive the annual Canadian musical award JUNO.

The trio consists of Lan Tung (Taiwan/Canada) on the erhu/Chinese violin, Dailin Hsieh (Taiwan) on the zheng/Chinese zither, and Jonathan Bernard (Canada) on percussion. The group blends ancient musical instruments and traditions from China and beyond, creating a beautiful new sound.
