Seeking Nominations for 2019 Cougar Guides

The SIUE Experience may seem months away, but we are already in the process of recruiting Cougar Guides for the fall 2019 program.

The SIUE Experience is a multi-day welcome program just before school begins in the fall. Cougar Guides play a key role in the transition of new students by guiding and leading them through their first days at SIUE.

Cougar Guides will have the opportunity to build relationships and interact with University staff and faculty, while leading a team of students beginning their SIUE journey. Individuals selected will serve as role models and mentors to incoming SIUE students, and will be responsible for making the SIUE Experience informative and fun for student participants.

We know that there are many SIUE students who would make outstanding Cougar Guides! It is our hope that you will take a moment of your time to nominate a student or students who you believe would be outstanding assets to the success of the SIUE Experience. Each student nominated will be contacted by our staff to let them know that someone on campus thinks that they would make a great Cougar Guide. We will not share your name specifically or any information you provide in your nomination.

Please take a moment to nominate a student to serve as a 2019 Cougar Guide.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Provide assistance with the implementation of the SIUE Experience (fall new student welcome program) and ASK ME stations the first day of classes
  • Guide and manage a group of new students through the entirety of the SIUE Experience program
  • Work closely and effectively with fellow Cougar Guides to make a memorable and welcoming environment for new students
  • Initiate and develop open communication and interaction with your new students, fellow Cougar Guides and professional staff
  • Serve as a positive role model, set an example and passionately promote all that SIUE has to offer to new students
For more information, contact studentsfirst@siue.edu.

Security Enhanced as Part of Starbucks Renovation

As part of the Morris University Center renovation to Starbucks this summer, two new video surveillance cameras are scheduled to be installed on the Edwardsville campus.

One camera will be installed that will cover the point of sale area and another will be installed near the exterior door.

The new equipment will be used by Campus Police to protect employees and guests and reduce the risk of criminal activity. The cameras currently installed don’t provide full coverage of the retail area.

The cameras are meant to enhance the overall safety and security on campus. In accordance with Section II (F) of the University’s Video Surveillance Policy, Vice Chancellor for Administration Rich Walker has approved the installation of the additional security equipment.

For more information, visit siue.edu/policies/6f3.shtml.
