Faculty/Staff Open House at the Student Fitness Center Ends Today

To showcase all that the SFC has to offer, the Department of Campus Recreation invites faculty and staff to take advantage of free access:

6 a.m.-11 p.m.

We have a large variety of cardiovascular and strength equipment, a free weight room, a one-eighth mile track, free group fitness classes (yoga is normally $15/semester for members), courts for sports play and an indoor pool.   

You can ask for a free tour, a free equipment orientation, or just work out or play!  

Please stop by the Reception Desk with your SIUE ID and government issued ID (driver’s license) to sign a waiver. 

A faculty or staff SFC membership is only $240 per year, and we have discounted membership rates for your spouse/partner and/or dependents, as well. Various payment options are available.

SIUE Speech & Debate McAlister's Fundraiser

The recently revived SIUE Forensic Speech & Debate Society is hosting a Fundraiser Night today from 5-8 p.m. at McAlister's Deli in Edwardsville!

Ten percent of all dine-in, take-out and drive-thru orders, and all tips received during this time frame will be donated to the team as they prepare to represent SIUE at the National Speech Championship at Oakland University in March. 

Bring a friend out to McAlister's tonight, meet the team and help support them as they strive to bring a new level of excellence to SIUE.

Dungeons and Dragons: Learn to Play
5:30-7:30 p.m.
Tuesdays, through March 5

Cost: $59 

Learn the basics of playing Dungeons and Dragons, the oldest and most popular role-playing game in the world! We start by learning how to create your own character, then learn the basics of play. The course includes a short adventure to get the hang of how the game works. The fifth edition of the game will be used. 

Conversational Japanese
7-8:30 p.m.
Wednesdays, Today through April 3

Cost: $89 

This course is designed to help students with little or no previous experience with the Japanese language. You will learn basic introductions, greetings and vocabulary used to describe common items and experiences. Pronunciation will be practiced, and basic Japanese conversation will be introduced along with learning about Japanese culture. No textbook is needed for the course. The instructor will provide handouts.

"Creating Data Visualizations with Tableau" at IRIS Center, Feb. 15

The IRIS Center will present "Creating Data Visualizations with Tableau:"

In this workshop, IRIS Center Technician Ben Ostermeier will demonstrate how to use Tableau Public to create interactive data visualizations. He will show a variety of examples of the different ways you can present information using Tableau.

Ostermeier will also lead an exercise on creating your own data visualizations using Tableau Public. Bring your laptops to try it yourself!

You can download and install Tableau Public for free at this link: public.tableau.com. No previous data visualization experience is necessary.

Participate in Educational Outreach's Open Figure Drawing Sessions

SIUE Police Offers R.A.D. Class, Feb. 16

SIUE Police Department presents R.A.D. A one-day, free, self-defense course offered exclusively for women (faculty, staff, and students and their guest). R.A.D. is a nationally certified self-defense program designed specifically for women. We will spend the day teaching students different techniques on how to defend themselves should they ever be in immediate danger.

At the end of the day, we put an officer in a padded suit and allow the students to use the skills taught to defend themselves. This is done in a safe environment, and everything is completely optional. We hope to see you there!
