Please Notify Students to RSVP for 2018 Fall Commencement by Today

The deadline for students to reserve a seat at the 2018 fall commencement ceremony and/or order regalia is today.

The 2018 fall commencement will be held Friday-Saturday, Dec. 14-15 in the Vadalabene Center.

Students are required to:
1. Complete the RSVP and Regalia order form.
Note: Fill out the form whether you plan to participate in commencement or not.
• If you do not plan on participating but want to purchase a cap and gown, order here.

• If you do not plan on participating or purchasing a cap and gown, and want to stop receiving emails regarding commencement, RSVP “no” here.

2. Pick up regalia order in The Cougar Store beginning Monday, Nov. 26.
Note: To ensure everything fits and you have the correct order, please check your order before exiting the store. All orders must be picked up in the Cougar Store by Thursday, Dec. 13, unless otherwise discussed.

3. If special accommodations for the ceremony is required, contact the commencement staff by Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Buckminster Fuller’s Daughter and Granddaughter to Attend “Bucky Weekend” in Edwardsville,Today

Two generations of Buckminster Fuller’s family will travel to Edwardsville to celebrate a “Bucky Weekend” honoring the visionary inventor’s legacy in the region.

The Center for Spirituality and Sustainability is hosting an opening reception for its new Fuller Dome Gallery:

Bucky Fuller’s daughter, Allegra Fuller Snyder, his granddaughter Alexandra May and her husband Sam May will be in attendance.

The opening reception will feature an exhibition of Buckminster Fuller’s art print portfolio entitled Inventions: Twelve Around One. The print portfolio was gifted to the Center for Spirituality and Sustainability in 2017 by the Estate of Buckminster Fuller, and was received into the SIUE University Museum collection in cooperation with the SIUE Foundation.

The School of Engineering's Explore Day is an excellent opportunity for prospective students and their parents to learn more about the School, its programs and facilities.

Guests can participate in laboratory demonstrations and information sessions, speak to advisors, current students and faculty, and attend building and campus tours.

Representatives from local engineering, computer science and construction companies will be on hand to answer questions about employment opportunities.

The day begins at the Morris University Center, with a presentation by the School of Engineering, followed by presentations from individual programs.

Participants will then visit the Engineering Building, where they can visit labs, view student projects, speak with faculty, students, campus and industry partners.

The SIUE Office of Financial Aid will also offer a presentation to visitors.

SIUE Ice Hockey Club to Auction Jerseys for Military Appreciation Day Game

The SIUE Ice Hockey Club will host its 5th Annual Military Appreciation Day game against the Saint Louis Billikens:

SIUE will wear a new camouflage jersey design during the game, and individuals will be able to acquire the jerseys through a silent auction. A portion of the proceeds from the jersey sales will benefit the USO of Missouri, Inc. Last year, the SIUE Club Ice Hockey team donated over $1,200 to the USO of Missouri, Inc. All current and retired military members will receive free admission with their military identification.

Bush Refrigeration and King Air Conditioning and Heating are the title sponsors.

SIUE Softball Hall of Famer Esker Evans Featured on Segue

In October, seven individuals and three teams were inducted into the SIUE Athletics Hall of Fame. Of those seven individual inductees, Jenny Esker Evans is one of the University’s most celebrated softball players for her efforts on and off the field.

On this week’s episode of Segue, SIUE’s premier radio show, Chancellor Randy Pembrook interviews Esker Evans about her softball career, her work as an environmental engineer and her induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame.

This week’s episode of Segue will air at 9 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 11, on WSIE 88.7 FM The Sound.

While pursuing her bachelor’s degree in physics, Esker Evans helped the Cougar softball team advance to four consecutive NCAA Tournaments. She was a three-time All-Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), All-Region and CoSIDA Academic All-American selection. The Academic All-American of the Year capped her senior season by earning an NCAA postgraduate scholarship.

Esker Evans graduated in 2004 and went on to earn a master’s in meteorology in 2007 from the University of Utah. She currently resides in Salt Lake City and works as an environmental engineer for Rio Tinto Kennecott.

Nominate an SIUE Rotary Student Leader of the Month by Nov. 16

The Kimmel Student Involvement Center, in partnership with the Edwardsville Rotary, is pleased to accept nominations for the SIUE Student Leader of the Month.

Individuals selected for this award will be recognized at an upcoming Rotary meeting and at the annual Kimmel Leadership Awards Ceremony in April.

SIUE students can be nominated by students, faculty or staff. No self-nominations will be considered. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis, and should be received by the 16th of the month to be considered for that month's award. Any nominees not selected for one month, will be considered for the following months. Awards will be given for September through April each academic year.

Candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:

· High academic standards
· Campus involvement and activities
· Service to others on and off campus
· Leadership within their academic area or within an organization
· Demonstrated ability to promote spirit and pride at SIUE

2018 Angel Tree Deadline, Nov. 26

Local children are in need of gifts and clothes this holiday season!

Any organization, student, faculty or staff can sponsor a child or multiple children this holiday season.

We are once again working with the Salvation Army to secure names of local children in need.

To sponsor a child, please stop by the Student Government Office front desk located in the Student Success Center (SSC), room 1280.

Please note these important dates:
Monday, Nov. 5 - Started Angel sign up and pick up
Monday, Nov. 26 - Deadline to sponsor a child
Monday, Nov. 26 - Last day to pick-up Angels by 4 p.m.
Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 27- 29 - Drop off labeled, unwrapped presents to Student Government Office in SSC 1280

Saturday, Dec. 1 - Children's holiday celebration and gift pick-up

We encourage our student organizations to participate in the event on Saturday, Dec. 1. The organization that accumulates the most "angel points" by adopting the most angels, donating wrapping paper or providing the most volunteers will receive a $150 credit on their organization account! As well, there will be treats, games, crafts, pictures with Santa, and opportunities to interact with the children you are sponsoring.

Northwest Normal University Visiting Scholars' Next Presentation, Nov. 30

Campus Recreation Hosts CPR/AED and First Aid Certification Class, Nov. 30

The Department of Campus Recreation is hosting a CPR/AED and First Aid certification class:

The certification is through the American Red Cross and is valid for two years from the date of certification.

Visit the Student Fitness Center Reception Desk to sign up for the class. There is a limited number of available spots.

The cost of the class is $40 for SIUE students and $45 for faculty and staff.
