"Howl" Reading, Today

Jeffrey Skoblow, PhD, emeritus professor of English and Eric Ruckh, PhD, associate professor of history, will read Allen Ginsberg’s "Howl." They will be joined by itinerant artists and musicians:

12:30 p.m.
Today
One of the small knolls in the Main Quad

Ginsberg wrote "Howl" in Berkeley, California in 1954-55 and read it for the first time at the Six Gallery in San Francisco on Oct. 7, 1955.

Ginsberg’s reading of "Howl" is a signal moment in the history of American culture and letters. With this poem, Ginsberg aligns spirit and body, breadth and idea to assault the madness of American culture and society (then and now) and redeem the holiness of the body and its manifold, myriad pleasures.

We hope many of you will join us.

For more information, contact Ruckh at eruckh@siue.edu.
