Flu Shots Available

Health Service has received its shipment of flu vaccine (Fluarix® Quadrivalent), and is pleased to offer flu vaccine to faculty, staff, retirees and students.

Health Service is able to provide flu shots to employees and retirees who are the primary insurer in a state sponsored insurance plan at no charge.

In order to receive the vaccine at no charge, employees must:
1.) Document the last four digits of your social security number
2.) Present your University ID and
3.) Present your state health insurance card

Retirees must

Health Service is able to provide flu immunization at a cost of $30 (cash or check only) to SIUE employees not covered under a state health plan.

Please plan to wear clothing for easy access to the upper arm injection site.

WALK IN Flu Shot Clinics will be available on the SIUE campus in the Lower Level of the Student Success Center. There will be signs to identify the appropriate place.

Heartsaver CPR/AED Certification
5:30-9:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 17
Cost: $99

Heartsaver courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training and cover first-aid basics for the most common first-aid emergencies. Hands-on training also prepares students to perform CPR and use an AED in a safe, timely and effective manner. A two-year certification card is issued upon course completion.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
5:30-8 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 18
Cost: $79

Basic life support training for healthcare professionals covers a variety of subjects, including breathing and cardiac emergencies, defibrillation, CPR, AED and obstructed airway for adults, children and infants. Learn new techniques and sharpen your skills with hands-on experience. Two-year certification card is issued upon course completion.

Hospice Conference – 6 CEU Workshop
9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Cost: $75

A conference designed for professionals, para-professionals, volunteers and others who work with chronically ill, terminally ill or grieving persons of all ages in hospitals, hospice programs, long-term care facilities, home health, schools, churches and other community agencies, as well as support groups, funeral service programs and counseling services for the bereaved. CEUs available for social workers, nurses and funeral home directors.

Social Work Workshop – 6 CEU Workshop

The title of this workshop is "Moving from Trauma to Resilience: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the Impact Across the Lifespan."

Nominate a Champion for Diversity by Oct. 17

The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion invites the SIUE community to nominate a faculty or staff member for the 2018-2019 SIUE Champion for Diversity Award.

This award is presented to a faculty or staff member who has demonstrated an exemplary level of dedication to SIUE’s mission of fostering equal opportunity, positive interactions with students, staff and faculty, and who respects and values differing backgrounds and points of view within SIUE.  

Nominations are now open and should be received by Wednesday, Oct. 17. The Champion for Diversity Award will be recognized annually during December commencement and will consist of a plaque and $500 donated to a University diversity and inclusion project of the recipient’s choice.

Sign up for a Faculty/Staff Green Dot Education Session

Green Dot is a comprehensive violence prevention program with objectives to decrease the likelihood of dating and domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault.

The education session's intent is to train faculty and staff to endorse, model and support two Green Dot values: (1) power-based personal violence is not tolerated in our campus community and (2) everyone will do their part to prevent violence.

Plan to Attend SIUE's Annual Ski/Snowboard Trip, Dec. 16-21

Campus Recreation is sponsoring its annual ski/snowboard trip to Keystone Resort in Colorado from Sunday-Friday, Dec. 16-21.

The cost is $580 for SIUE Students and $600 for alumni/faculty/staff/guests. The price includes five nights of ski in/ski out lodging and four days of lift tickets.

You do not need a Student Fitness Center membership to attend.
